Kieran Scott - leaving?

Yes anything we can deem as ‘good’ was Danks, definitely. Not Scott. Anything we can deem as ‘bad’ was Scott, definitely. Not Danks.
I get that but come on look at the links and past histories are you honestly saying danks had no link to archer Ramsey or Roger’s.

It's not just about the players that have already come in anyway, he is essentially the director of football. That doesn't just include signings. We have no idea what influence he has behind the scenes and whether that is any good or not.

It's nothing like that.

Scott outright credited Danks with Archer and Ramsey, he coached them both at youth level at Aston Villa.

Danks coached Morgan Rogers for years whilst both were at West Brom, we then signed him after an indifferent loan spell at Blackpool.

The most likely answer is that Danks recommended a player he coached at youth level.

I suspect he also recommended Alex Gilbert, for the same reason, and that's been an expensive waste of money.

No I’m not saying that.

To my mind, think back to when Carrick was appointed. The three leading candidates were Carrick, Rob Edwards and Gary O’Neil. Edwards was a player and then a youth coach at Wolves. I think Scott worked at Wolves? He may well have encountered him then and kept contact, or at least tracked his career.

Gary O’Neil ended up at Wolves. If you listen to the Monday Night Club on 5Live, there was an interview with a Wolves ‘bigwig’ a few weeks back, I think he’s pretty young and worked his way up. He’d been there a while and wanted a young, hungry coach to come in and rejuvenate the team. They appointed the bloke just sacked by Bournemouth.

Kieron Scott used to work for Bournemouth. Bringing him to Boro opens up this network of clubs, a network I don’t really think we’ve done much business with in the past. These blokes know the youth networks of top-end football clubs like the back of their hands. They know all the staff.

Scott brings Danks in, which gives us a direct link not just to Villa but also the first-hand knowledge Danks has of young footballers to come out of the area. Rogers was West Brom, even Gilbert came through there before moving to Brentford. The club are actively engaged with those clubs now because of Scott, where he’s worked and who he maintains contact with.

Carrick is and was the outlier of those three leading candidates. He was possibly the more glamorous, the more difficult one to get by all accounts, given he looked to be out of the running at one point. Maybe he was the ‘chairman’s choice’ dare I say it.

But my point is that of course Danks has an input, that’s part of why he’s been hired. To use that knowledge and experience on our behalf. He’s been appointed by Scott because Scott knows him and knows he will be a part of that network of clubs. Like when we wanted a midfielder at the death under Wilder, where are we looking? Brentford. Onyeka. There’s a reason a large number of players we’re linked with now have connections with clubs Scott and the staff he’s appointed have worked before.

Villa, Wolves, West Brom, Bournemouth, Brentford, etc. There’s a network of people doing business, sharing ideas or players or contacts and information. We happen to be part of that because we now have Kieron Scott.

That’s just my take on it, my instinct says Scott is looking in places he knows well. And appointing staff to match. It makes perfect sense to me.

I can’t see Scott or Carrick leaving until they’ve acheived something here - foot ball is mad so a relegation prem club might panic and try to get carrick but I doubt he’d go.

And the other side of it is, how long do we give Scott and Carrick? What position this season isn’t failure? What is the minimum expectation for next season?

How do you feel qualified to judge that considering you see nothing of what he does on a day to day basis? (apologies if you are Steve Gibson / work at Rockcliffe)
We have seen the signings at match days & from what I have seen we have wasted money on 3 left backs, centre forward & Australians who aren't good enough. Barlazor not good enough.

Van de Berg - go on link him to Danks.
Who decided to keep Akpom - was that Danks before he came to the club - Or maybe it might have been Scott telling Wilder he was staying - This might not be true but one thing is certain Wilder didn’t want him.

Warnock didn’t want him either

Nobody really knows what goes on -
What players has Scott recommended that we haven’t signed for various reasons that have gone on to better things or not.
What players has Scott discarded that have gone on to better things or not.
Unless you are involved in the dealings of the club nobody really knows.
But Gibson etc will have a good idea - as will other clubs

I never said that was danks I’m just highlighting danks links to those

I do think Scott was and is integral but for those 3 players I’d say I doubt they’d have come were it not for danks.

I'd be interested to know how much of a role Carrick plays in the recruiting process. He seems outwardly to accept any new player coming in and seems on board with the current set up. However it's clearly a big summer coming up and I wonder if Carrick has said something privately about recruitment and what he wants, and wonder if this is at odds with how Scott operates. Obviously, pure speculation on my part, but it would be odd for these Scott rumours to surface, unless he has been tapped up. Applying for the Stoke role would suggest he is seeking an exit rather than being pushed out. Only time will tell.
