Another thing is that the same calibre of loan signing just wasn’t available in the market last summer.

Have a look at the top scorer and top assist charts for the championship this season, there’s no loans there.

The only one loan player on the list is Jay Stansfield from Fulham who has got 8 in 26 for Brum so not exactly tearing the league up

The strategy changes every year though depending on what you have. This year was about filling the squad out with better options off the bench and potential for profitable sales down the line. If we do that next season we’ll end up with a massive squad full of similar quality players with not much experience. If for example McNair and Howson leave, we’ll need to replace that experience. I think we’ll be looking for a proper striker whatever happens.

We're roughly at the same points total we were last season.
4 points behind where we were last season and 9 places in the league. We won games 30-33, so we are likely fall further behind over the next 4 matches. But either way, we've regressed.

At this point last season it felt like we would win every game. We were playing far better football. It's never felt like that all season. Too many players who aren't good enough playing regularly.

The other point re Hull's 8 loans is that they are not all season long.
2 players for the full season.
2 players for the first half then returned.
4 players for the second half. Why wouldn't they when already in a play off spot.
Overall 5 full time heads across the season - all of whom could play - unlike Muniz last season H2.
So 2 more than us.

They also have signed 9 permanents to our 11 and spent less money doing so.
Philogene already as good a signing as any we have made.

BG's point re wages is true. They are an expense whether on permanent players or loanees.
It is the combination of amortisation, agents fees, wages and profit on sale that determines the true cost of a player and benchmark for value.
