Lack of class and respect sadly lacking in this board

Considering Lawson as a minister of the 80s it’s worth noting that unthinking obsequiousness on the passing of a politician itself died in the 80s really, as a result of a backlash against the notoriously kind obituaries the British press, left as well as right, published on Oswald Moseley’s passing.

He wants them to lie, or be quiet.

This isn't North Korea I'm afraid, although some people would really like that. He was a chancellor that wreaked havoc on the North. It was unquestionably bleak, I'd go so far as to say the economic havoc he and his PM ravaged the north with, was a key factor to me leaving the north. He was partially responsible for displacing me by ensuring there were no prospects for me to fulfill my potential in the north.
Exactly - I had to move to London.

"my comments re both I stand by completely - along with many others. Nice try"

I am not trying anything fella. You are the one bleating one about decency and yet you are happy to fire off your own opinions which may offend

Sad when people feel the need to shame others for their opinion. Should we feel bad for everyone who dies? Would you be whining if a dictator had died and we said good riddance? It's a scale, and while I dont think its good that the man died I don't particularly feel the need to show any respect or pretend he did anything good, as he showed no respect for the working class or the North in his life.

You've asked Rob for censorship of views Nosmo. You want to excercise your right to say that you disagree with the posts. That you thought he was a lovely guy. That's up to you but you can't then insist no one else puts their view forward.

In my view he was a shocking chancellor. I'm quiet shocked at the depths the board has plumetted to if we have to doff our cap and say someone was great when they weren't.

Besides, despite the scientific evidence of his doctor saying so, is he really dead?

Little more mature than that . If admin can’t see it my point is proven regarding the depths the board has sunk to
This isn't new mate, the board has always been like this and hasn't 'sunk' anywhere. Rob has always challenged the comments he disagrees with and let the ones he agrees with flow. But its his board, so I guess he can.

As I say, unless Nigella is lurking on here somewhere I don't see what is disrespectful, its just opinions about his time as a notorious politician. If they'd been posted yesterday its fine but now he's dead people shouldn't say what they think? Seems odd.

When I was growing up my dad often used to say to me “If you haven’t got anything good to say about someone, then it is best to say nothing at all” I strongly feel he was right. That said, it isn’t something i, like most people manage to live by, but it is something I occasionally manage to remember.

Social media allows a virtually anonymous platform to enable people to vent their inner thoughts and views, thoughts in real life we may have in our heads but dare not utter in public. We all have dark thoughts enter our heads at times, thoughts that we manage to keep locked away in our heads as otherwise the jails would be very full. This board has so often proved a force for good, something we witnessed recently following a burglary, but I do see where nosmo is coming from too, especially when it relates to politics or the monarchy and I would like to think we could all try and remember my old mans wise words a little more often, myself very much included.

Peace & Love to all 👍
[Except for (insert name here)]

Whilst I'm certainly not comparing Lawson to Hitler as they're nothing like each other in amounts of generally causing grief, shall we start a thread extolling the virtues Adolf had and glossing over his shortcomings?

I heard he painted a good likeness of some flowers once.

So it appears the rule is you can be abusive to anyone that's alive with the most dishonest and twisted abuse and stereotyping, but once they are dead they are now immune to any critiscism even if they made the lives of 100s of thousands terrible.

I'm glad nosmo isn't admin, because these would be a dark corner of the internet.

to be fair 30 years ago we would all be down the pub, and someone would pick up a rag of a red top with a gushing headline about what a great chancellor he was, and everyone around the table would say "what a load of shyte, he was an ass that destroyed our economy". Yes things are amplified to a greater audience, but the same vitriol would have existed 30 years ago.

I haven’t commented on that thread either.

But I do take issue with this view that when some one dies in this country all their life works are somehow forgotten and they become a great person all of a sudden a bit odd.

I hate farrage and Rees Mogg so if they both died tomorrow do they also become great and sadly missed then.

Gushing praise? Give over. I am talking about some common decency - if you can’t see that I feel for you.
You mention common decency, he was part of Thatachers government and cabinet at the time of the Hillsborough disaster, what display of decency did he or the others show towards those that had been killed or their families? The decency they offered the dead and their families was to create one of the biggest state cover ups against its people and blame them and other fans for their death.

It took the none stop effort of ordinary people, despite many obstacles and many people on the outside being sceptical of their motivation and labbelling them moaners or self pity scousers. He was part of a group who new the truth and what was taking place to cover it up, where was his decency as human in the death of others to speak out and tell the truth?

Look at what the man did and was part of nosmo, your argument is a duff one. Posters are entitled to their opinions on the subject and don’t have to doff their cap to you.
