Latte Lath

Looking at Akpom’s record is really interesting.

He made 12 appearances for Arsenal over 5 years. He had loans in League One with Brentford and Coventry and scored 0 goals in 10 appearances. He joined Forest on loan and scored 0 goals in 7 appearances. He went to Hull and scored 7 in 42. He went to Brighton and scored 0 in 10. At Boro, he scored 5 goals in 40 appearances.

So before last season, he’d scored 12 goals in 121 appearances in English football. There is absolutely no way anyone could’ve predicted he would do what he did last year. Not a chance.

No argument there my point is not all foreign based players “ come good”

Did Kai Kamara did Lee dong gook did the demonised payero

So why will he or silvera etc

I hope they do but there’s no guarantee.
Definitely no guarantees, but many appear to have written him off. But there’s no guarantee he won’t come good either.

Forss and Lath as a partnership. Take the pressure off him as the sole focal point because finishing aside he's looked ok to me.

And Forss had shown more than enough for him to get the opportunity to be on the end of these chances. Our press might be more effective with those two in the opposition's faces as well.

Exactly how I feel about him as well. It’s only September 17th. It’s mad how people just expect every single footballer to move to a new country and settle in immediately.
In that case why do our recruitment team expect him to do that. I can see there might be potential there, but expecting him to lead the line and score the goals in a new country is unfair…..in which case why haven’t we got an experienced Championship striker? Actually we have but we don’t play him there!

Well maybe when Carrick says he believes things will come good, that he can see the potential, that the results will come, maybe we should take him at face value?

Presumably they’re playing Latte Lath because they’re sure he’s going to smash in some goals. Maybe the club is actually at the start of a longer-term plan and all we can do is be patient while the coaches and players work themselves into form.

I really don’t mind Lath, I like his movement and runs. Unfortunately it just hasn’t clicked for him in front of goal which is a shame as he’s our main striker… I have hope it will come together for him soon.

He may take half a season viv
We can see he has ability

Latte looks a good player to me , just needs to learn how to be more involved in the team play instead of trying to dribble his way past entire defenses all the time

Inteersting comparison with Payero who cost the same and done absolutely nothing at all in reality other than being south american

Quite why people are having go at the lad beguiles me, he needs time to adapt to the league and lets be honest, what does 5 million get you in 2023?

I can see him scoring in spurts to be honest, not frequently, hes very good technically, is strong and is very mobile, thats 75% of the battle done

It's alot more than the majority of this league spend though
Well, it’s more than some strikers cost I agree. But if we were expecting someone to come in, hit the ground running and eclipse everything Chuba did, I’d expect to pay more than £5m. Hence why Chuba went for £12m with one year left.

Just seen Piroe score in exactly the same position that Lath found himself in yesterday
Why he didn’t use the outside of his foot only he knows.

Then why didn't we spend for a proven striker just Gibsin penny pinching again isn't investing in us

Nobody really knows how much he cost because the fee was undisclosed. An Italian football website and Wikipedia say it was €6.5m including bonuses and add-ons, which is very different from a flat €6.5m.

You’d imagine that promotion is one of those triggers and if we do that then he’ll have done his job and everybody’s happy. If we don’t go up or he doesn’t do the business, we don’t pay the extra costs.

To be fair to latte lath he worked his socks off yesterday and for large periods was doing it on his own. Dropping deep making runs in behind, holding the ball under pressure. Not surprising he wasn't composed he was probably shattered.
I thought he had a great game other than his finishing. Not a coach so I don't really know whether you can coach that clinical mindset.

He may benefit from a little time coming on from the subs bench to take him out of the firing line but I am sure Carrick will speak to him and find out if the misfiring is effecting him.

It's only early in his time at the club, he reminds me of Leroy Lita, looking to spin off into space, quick and direct, that said, he has no composure in front of goal, that is something you either have, or don't have, he never looks confident when bearing down on goal.

I'm not sure he will reach double figures, and that's the worry, where are our goals going to come from? because we will always concede.

Why are many on here, thinking he was going to be the real deal? The stats don't lie.
His career record does not back that up, he's played 145 games and scored 31 goals, average.... goal every 4.67 games
Over a 46 game season on his average scoring record, that would be 9.85 goals for the season.

It's early days, but I don't think he looks comfortable leading the line as a loan striker.
He needs some luck in front of goal, that will give him more confidence, but he also needs help around him.
