What turns someone from being say a great player, a loyal servant or someone involved in iconic moment into a legend and what does legend mean to you?

For me it's someone who built a legacy, had a rapport with the fans to the extent where they'll always be part of the club.
So players like TLF, Slaven, Mowbray, Mustoe.
But for me (I get that everyone has their own opinion) not players like Emerson, Rav and Viduka who to them it was just a job.

Mowbray is the only legend in my lifetime watching the boro. Local lad, captain and manager. If juninho hadn't left so soon first time round then maybe he would be too.

Out of interest I have added a poll about Maccarone. Two last minute winners in dramatic fashion in a qf and sf of a European competition, one a ever lasting image of a flying header a moment for those who where there or watching will never ever forget and surely one of our best ever moments.

How far do we go back? There are many legends at Boro. I am sure if we were around 100 years ago Tim Williams would be up there. Camsell, Clough, Hickton.Maddren, Rioch, Steve Gibson. Would we include Hartlepool for allowing us to use their ground so that we could even exist. Flipping heck, nearly forgot Stan Anderson and Jack Charlton. Take your pick

I'd class a legend as someone who delivered an iconic moment yet was also consistent and loved by fans, leaving to no grudges from anyone
In my era of supporting Boro from about 1999 the legends I've watched wee

Juninho
Maccerone
Southgate
Big Aussie
Friend
Leadbitter

There are others who'd I'd class as club favourites but those 6 are what I'd class as bonafied legends of my era

That is quite a good list but you have missed off the best player We have ever had Wilf Mannion

A man who provided us with legendary moments, undoubtedly.

I think that the amount of times that an invisible man put him on his backside in the box when running towards goal excludes him from parity with the greats.

A legend is somebody who has achieved something that has had a huge historical and cultural impact on the standing of the Club

It shouldn't be bandied around but those 2 last minute winners and what those goals meant to the Club and us supporters gives him legendary status. No question in my mind.

To my mind yes.. in the ground as it happened.. tho it's Ali's voice in commentary that makes it for me..

It's the moments that matter & that moment was massive..

I think there are many criteria. Service to the club being an example as well as iconic moments.

I'd have Downing up there as well as Maccarone for example.
