Lewis O’Brien.

Let's not be too hasty, keep this run going for a couple more games then we can talk about an upturn.

Promising signs, but his performances have been against a tactically naïve Southampton on a poor run and League Two opposition.

The biggest bonus of having him there is the tactical familiarity it brings for the players that were here last season, with O'brien playing the role very similar to Giles

You can only play against the opposition in front of you. In terms of teams, Southampton might be one of the 'best' in terms of individuals he comes up against this season, i.e. Adam Armstrong/ Che Adams/ Flynn Downes/ Ryan Fraser/ Stuart Armstrong/ that Edozie lad

But agree, tactically they were all over.

O'Brien with Hackney I think will be pretty good. Howson to bolster in some away matches.
Bangura (injured I know), Engle, Coulson all signed this summer and yet we play one of the league's best midfielders at LB. He played well and credit to him for attitude as well as ability.

Not a fan of playing him there at all.

He's a midfielder, we should play him there, especially when we have 3 left backs on the books.

He's obviously going to look good going forward, because he is.
probably trying to accommodate him though. MC said last night when talking about how good Barlaser was 'we are blessed in that position'. 4 top midfielders fighting over 2 spots. Nothing needs doing there in Jan that's for sure, albeit O'Brien is a loaner and we all know what that means.

The biggest bonus is that he isn't Engel who isn't ready to play championship football. Maybe Bangura is, we will see when he is fit.

If you watched the highlights only you would struggle to identify him as our left back. He was everywhere and could have had a couple of goals even. I've no doubt it was tactical to push into midfield and he has the fitness and pace to pull it off and then get back when needed.

What are your thoughts on Kieran Scott, mate?

Extremely impressed by the lad.
Pace, agility, has quickly learnt how to take corners, good distribution, knows what hes doing.....on the Christmas Card list already (y)

Reminds me a lot of Tav. Pace, great engine and very versatile. I guess right now that Howson+Hackney in midfield with O'Brien as LB/WB is better than Hackney+O'Brien with Engel at LB. If Bangura (or Engel) are able to step up then a central midfield of O'Brien and Hackney with Howson and Barlaser as back-ups ought to be close to the best midfield unit outside of the parachute clubs.
