Libertines @ The Arc

I’d have liked to go to that. Heard about it too late though.

Just watching the Theroux interview.
He looks a little bit haunted by the Mark Blanco thing.. quite regretful about his druggie past too.. when he says he’d like to live long enough to hear his baby girl speak.

Serms like a canny lad who has been in a dark place around dark people.. clearly romanticised the whole heroin.. addiction lifestyle.

Wanting to die after writing a few jangly indie tunes.. bit of a a waste.
What a waster!

I do believe him about the Mark Blanco thing mind. So I can at least continue to listen to his genius relatively guilt free.

The bit when something went down the wrong way in the interview was as hilarious as it was awkward. Louis was genuinely concerned! As was them wrestling in the sea at the end.

Something happened.. but if something else happened.. no one saw anything.

Yeah.. the choking thing was weird.

Watched it earlier tonight as well.

He’s not lying when he says he’s a very unwell man.

Sadly, he is still clearly struggling with his addictions. Some naively made the connection of his weight gain being a sign that he's now clean and healthy, however he appears to have replaced heroin with alcohol, and become dependent on that, hence the huge weight gain.

He said that he feels "death is lurking" and I think he probably knows deep down that the alcohol abuse is going to kill him, but knows if he tries to go teetotal then he will just end up back on heroin.

I noticed a comment a woman had made on Facebook recently. She said that she was a long-time friend of his parents and said "He was a lovely lad, he just got a little lost along the way". I'd say that probably sums things up quite well.

The only slight concern I have is that he still won't seem to entertain the idea that Mark was killed. He said that nobody knows what happened, because nobody saw it. I worry that he's protecting somebody who doesn't deserve to be protected.

One of the female guests who was at the party said she couldn't account for Headlock and Roundhill's whereabouts after they threw him out of the flat. Surely that would mean that Pete wouldn't be able to account for their whereabouts either.

He's recently offered to meet Mark's Mother and I hope she accepts the invitation.

I found the interview really sad with one or two uplifting moments.
My partner is a therapist and her view he is living with shame - for his past, for the hurt he has caused his mum, friends and blanko’s mum.

I got quite emotional with the band footage shortly after the discussion of him and Carl’s view of the past.

Looks like there is some hope with his new lifestyle but the clip of him being egged on by that camera man looked dangerous to me.

Love the new single

I thought it was interesting seeing how he'd reacted when he'd played Can't stand me now to Louis as well, and nearly broke down in tears.

He's clearly still damaged due to how their relationship broke down at the time, despite the fact they're back together as a band.

There was talk of him and Carl being actual lovers back in the day but who knows.
Yeah I know, which sort of seems plausible, but then the way they are with each other also doesn't seem to suggest that. But tbh, even if they were lovers, you'd have thought he'd be over it 20+ years later, given he's now married etc.

Yeah, it's a bit of an odd one really. He also said to Louis that meeting Carl was the most transformative thing that happened in his life, and again he became emotional after he'd said it.

It might be more to do with how unhappy he'd been in his younger years due to having a militarian father and having a restrictive upbringing, being brought up on army barracks. Then he moves to London, meets Carl and it was probably the first time in his life at that point where he felt free.

Yeah. One thing that always strikes me about both of them is that even when they're just noodling about on an acoustic singing it sounds good, in an almost intentional way. They almost don't need any level of production.

Some of the gigs they put on at Filthy McNasty's were brilliant.

Louis should have pressed him about the murder song he wrote a few months later and filmed the video in the flat.

I mean.. the prime suspect made a full confession.. so the video evidence.. the lyrics of the song.. the interviews.. and the confession.

Hmm

Fair point yes.
