From the Gazette article on 94/95:
"The new manager’s arrival had not only ignited the media but also the fans and the crowd of 23,343 was less than 1,000 below the Ayresome Park capacity. Boro not only beat Burnley 2-0, thanks to a brace from John Hendrie, but went on to win their opening four games without conceding a goal. The show was on the road. During that time, the Gazette reported a marvellous scoop when we revealed that Robbo was in talks to sign Gary Lineker. Robbo’s former England team-mate was now 33 and his contract with Japanese club Grampus Eight was due to finish in December. Lineker gave Robbo’s offer serious consideration but in the end decided to take the lucrative media offer which had come his way."
