Linthorpe Road disruption

So I had to drop my wife off in Middlesbrough last night and man what have they started to do there . It’s like whacky races. The road even has a curve in it now . It is going to be an abomination by the look of it with dedicated cycle lanes used by errrr hardly anyone I assume .

Another nail in the coffin . Lots of local businesses up in arms over it .

Hey ho another reason not to bother coming in town I suppose

Drove up Linthorpe road from the ABC to the village yesterday afternoon, delivery men have to stop on the road as road not wide enough. Busses having problems getting through the chicane's, it's a nightmare with traffic backing up to the lights when drivers block exits from junctions. Not sure who's bright idea it was but yeas another nail in the coffin of Linthorpe road and the Town as a whole. I see very little use when/if completed.

All for more cycle lanes but this one seems badly implemented. Looks nothing like the initial designs.

MBC are absolutely terrible at cycle infrastructure so this is no surprise.

What was wrong with a bus/cycle lane?
Probably nothing but the idiots at the council have to spend their money on something . I would love for be a fly on the wall when they have creative ideas to improve Middlesbrough meetings …. It will be like a sketch show

A lot of the older shops have back alleys so have to re-stock through the front doors, obviously MBC did not consultant with the shop owners on this minor problem.

It's only going to get worse, next stage is from Albert Park up to the village!

I’d like to know who actually is going to bike in and for what reason ? It can only be for work as you can’t carry shopping back on your bike. Also are they providing safe secure bike storage as I would never ever leave my bike in town ans I’ll be honest wouldn’t really feel at ease biking there .

I think it's a bit of a build it and they may come argument?

I'm not a cyclist but I think you can get trailers for bikes that you could carry shopping in.

The standard of driving on linthorpe Road currently is hardly an advert to continue with things as they are is it? Didn't a car end up embedded in a shop front not that long ago?

I largely believe that if it ain't broke don't fix it but you cannot argue that linthorpe road works currently. Let's try something new and maybe get more people fit and healthy?

I’m all for people getting fit but I think it’s a generation of change to get the average perso to consider biking down that road to shop .

It's like some kind of automobile slalom. Lots of drivers struggle to stay in lanes on straight roads. I foresee lots of low speed scrapes. Not sure that's progress.

Exactly, but someone has to be in the first generation to change things.

If the 1970s generation had taken more notice of climate change and pollution then the planet would be in a better state.

Change has to start somewhere.

If they want a cycle lane to and from town, why not build it on roads parallel to Linthorpe road, which is a busy bus and traffic artery.

The bike is the main mode of transport in Middlesbrough town centre accompanied with tracksuit and cap.

The cyclists won't be able to shop as they've not put in any safe & secure places to lock your bike up..

They just needed to look how the Dutch do it & copy that..
