Liverpool Quadruple betting disaster..

I have to say I've never had a bet on anything and know absolutely nothing about gambling, but it occurs to me that this might be a made-up story to advertise the potential rewards of gambling and so encourage people to gamble. A "no publicity is bad publicity" kind of thing. Is that a realistic suggestion?
