Looks like it's petering out.

I don't think there was ever anything to peter out. CW was clearly upset and disappointed after being beat by Huddersfield and said he was an emotional guy, he talked about the performance and the team and its shortcomings and a bit about next season.
I think he was too dignified for the club and Burnley to want to talk about the situation given his disappointed.

People for some reason are keeping a non story alive, and creating a situation, some of the comments on all.the threads are unreal, speculating on speculation and getting carried away. CW is here and getting on with the job. He will be linked with many a job in the future and I'm sure he and the club will have thought about that before he joined. People say his silence is deafening, but his statement is his presence and getting on with the job and preparing for some important games.

Support CW and get behind the team 100%, if he does leave at some point when ever that is, good luck to him and we move on.

Good I hope so

In reality he’s done nothing wrong
I suppose in the strictest sense this is true, but then it also depends on what you define as "wrong".

For me, I think it's pretty clear that he's had an interest in the Burnley job, which I also think is a poor move at this stage of the season for his current employers, more so given he is only 5 months into his contract.

Had it not been at such a critical stage of the season, then I wouldn't have an issue with it.

“The Boro boss has links to new Burnley owner Alan Pace, as the American previously looked into buying Sheffield United when Wilder was in charge at Bramall Lane, but despite the persistent speculation, the Middlesbrough hierarchy maintain there has been no formal approach for their manager and are confident he will be remaining on Teeeside” - hmmmmm

It will be telling how Wilder responds at the PC tomorrow. He can either put it to bed once and for all and commit himself to Boro for the rest of this season and beyond. Or, if he remains evasive, it will not do the team or club as a whole any good on the eve of such a big game, and only further tarnish his reputation with Boro fans.

What I really don’t want to happen is that we go into the close season with a doubt still over Wilder’s commitment to Boro and Burnley still being rumoured to want him as their next permanent manager.

Whether or not you think Wilder has done anything wrong and believe its all just speculation fuelled by social media, it really does need resolving asap, and the first 2 minutes of tomorrow’s press conference is the time that has to happen.

Right, I've held off getting involved in Wildergate so far apart from maybe two posts, but it's getting so bloody stupid now that I'm going to say my piece.
All Wilder is guilty of is trying to be diplomatic about a rumour that has been thrown at him following a match that we've lost. Not only had we lost, but it was on the back of a run of bad results and lack lustre performances.
To my mind he should have told the journo to go forth and multiply, but instead he tried to not upset him, the Boro or Burnley and he botched it because he's not a bland, media trained dahling.
Some of the vitriol expressed on here is frankly laughable and if it was coming from teenage girls rather than what I presume are grown adults then I'd have more tolerance of it.
When he does leave, which he will eventually, then we'll miss him. As we've seen since Aitor left, you don't know what you've got till it's gone.

Or he could’ve just said, “I’m not interested in going to Burnley”. It really would’ve been that simple.

Absolutely Right. I've never heard so much tosh talked on here over the last few days. People putting two and two together and coming up with all sorts of numbers. None of which were four. It's a non story. It's just that he's not as eloquent and articulate as say Thomas Tuchel when doing interviews and some people have blown it up out of all proportion. This is what happens with social media it can spiral rapidly out of control. Some of the comments made on here have been disgraceful. Can we please just move on and get back to focusing on what's going to happen on the pitch in the next four games?

Brilliant posts lads 👏👏👏. Thankfully I believe the majority agree with you.

My favourite part :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Some on here are beyond belief , some of the rubbish they reposted as gospel was frankly ridiculous , if he was messing the club about , we all know what Gibbo does to them, he will bin them in a heartbeat , yet some of the stuff on here has been bloody relentless , its like they are waiting to lose on saturday & get stuck in again ..........b***r off

Uh, cry me a river, upset, the man needs to get a grip and just answer the question. He's not a toddler, and we all get asked questions we dont like when at work, I had one today that came after a very difficult call, I answered the question with out sulking even though I thought it was an annoying question. This is aimed at Chris Wilder not you pal. I was very excited by wilder and what was to come next year in particular, now I think he is weak minded and a tad slow, and I wish he would leave if he wasn't already planning to, the team gets my full support as ever but wilder can do one. I will get behind the team, but Wilder is a prat, and if he doesn't look like he's getting us promoted by Xmas next year then hopefully he will get the sack. Put it this way, the guy better do very very well next season or the fans will turn quicker than with most managers before him. I echo your sentiment of "good luck to him if he moves on" I just hope he moves on now rather than next season

Why is it that important though?

Can remember Paul Merson going on some chat show and stating he wanted to manage us at some point. He was off in days.
Why is it important? It’s massively important. If your manager has desires elsewhere it’s better that it’s resolved. If he doesn’t but everyone (fans and press) thinks he does then it needs putting to bed.

It has becme a massive distraction at a pivotal part of the season, and if Wilder and co say that it hasn’t they will be lying.

We all know that there is no loyalty in football, but this last week has been a circus, and it was easily avoidable.

Who says he has desires elsewhere? He acted exactly the same when linked with the Sunderland job when he was flying with Sheffield Utd. Maybe its just how he is.

History has shown that Gibson doesn't mess around too much when he thinks he's being played. McClaren when he was flirting with Leeds, and then Garry Monk.

Its been utter hysteria.

This is bang on for me. I do think there’s been some overreactions, bad takes and hysteria, but that’s just football fans - plenty of normally rational people don’t show the same restraint with their footy team. I’ll still be giving CW the benefit of the doubt, at least until there’s a concrete reason for me not to, but if it is all just a fuss over nothing then it could have been very easily avoided with a brief and definitive statement.
