This season we lost

4 points to Rotherham
1 point to Huddersfield
4 points to Plymouth
1 point to Sheffield Wednesday
4 points to Blackburn
3 points to QPR
6 points to Stoke
1 point to Sunderland
3 points to Millwall
6 points to Bristol City
3 points to Preston

That is a total of 36 points we dropped against teams who I'd consider us to be considerably better than.

If we can be ruthless next season and figure out away of beating those teams that will sit in against us I genuinely believe we could be in for a great season. Even just 5 more points from the pile of tat and we'd have been in the play offs 😂

Typical Boro ey 😂

That Boro for you. Win against the teams who are better than us on paper then lose against teams we are better than on paper.

Aye has always been the case! I'll let them off this year though, think if we'd have had a couple of walking wounded wed have got those 5 points

Preston and Bristol finished 10th and 11th respectively so not exactly dross, but yes we did drop far too many points against the weaker sides in the league. That’s something we must work - breaking down sides like Rotherham who just put everyone behind the ball and try to frustrate us

We created plenty against Rotherham. Particularly in the first game.

I'm not sure what we could have done different tactically. We just didn't take any of our many many chances.

It's actually more than 36 points as for example we took 1 point out of 6 against Rotherham, i.e. 5 dropped points. Haven't worked it out exactly mind.

Yes the away game was just one of those days where nothing went for us - had we got a penalty and their man was sent off when jones was fouled we would have gone on to win comfortably i would have thought. We struggled in the home game more though.

Yes, but this is the Championship, and these things happen. We also took 6 pts off Leicester, so it works both ways. The Rotherham and Plymouth results do stand out as particularly disappointing though.

I'd say this is a healthy sign that we are en route to the heady days of Robson and McClaren.

Like Robin Hood, we would take points from Champions League chasers and redistribute them to Championship droppers.

This.

The original post hurt my head a little. It’s actually worse in that. You can’t “lose” 1 point. You gain 1 but loose 2.
And we dropped 2 points to Sunderland, not 1.
2 to Huddersfield.
5 to Plymouth
2 to Sheff Wed
5 to Blackburn

So 42 points dropped against those teams.

We should have 111 points 😉

I think it just shows how much at times we've struggled against teams that just sit in. It's easy to forget how poor we were against many of these sides due to recent results.

We didn't look like scoring against many. Also found some frankly ridiculous ways to concede. Many of the above created nothing yet still manage to get something. I'd add Sunderland to that. They offered nothing then a shocker from Glover.

The failure to beat Rotherham is stunning. In the context as to how bad they've been. That said should have been out of sight after 45mins in the away fixture.

Although it's maybe slightly screwed. The sheer amount of injuries did our season. We played for weeks without a CF. Also spells without our first choice CM or CB partnership. It's 'easy' to blame injuries. Yet we have been desimated by them.

It's a case of 'if's and buts'. Yet you'd think we would have beat some of the above with Latte Lathe / Forss and Jones being fit for the majority of them.

It is interesting that 2 points per game would not have got an automatic promotion spot this season. That must be very unusual.

Especially the home games against these teams, Bristol City and Plymouth we didn't even get out of bed for them games, some of the others formed part of our 7 game bad start at the beginning of the season which is why I am confident that prevent the shuddered start and pick up a couple of wins and we will be right up their, home form has to be nearly perfect to be automatics!

I think in hindsight this is fine but you're comparing form at separate stages of the season - for example, I remember being at some of those games where we were missing the likes of Latte Lath and Jones, as well as having make-shift defences. Watching Coburn struggle to play up top with what was obviously an injury was a tough watch at times.

I get that your post may be some-what tongue in cheek but also I think as a club we can be mightily chuffed with how our season finished up, considering we didn't win one of our first 6 games, I believe?

For me personally, and I'm happy to be corrected but I think the only games where I believe we should have got more from that list are the Rotherham away game and Huddersfield/Sunderland home games. We should have buried the Mackems by half time and allowed a freak goal to gain them a point.

I agree about all of the above. I mean not beating Rotherham home or away is ridiculous. I'd throw Plymouth into that.

Yet the one that still winds me up is the Sunderland game. They offered nothing. Then a shocker from Glover costs us. Forss's goal deserved to the winner 👌

It's the championship. Plenty of games we "shouldn't" have won which we did which is no different than the ones we "shouldn't" have lost.

Our dreadful start to the season is what really cost us as we were facing an uphill battle the entire time. We never really got close to the playoffs. Who knows how results would have turned out in the middle of end of the season if teams were treating us as a top team instead of an inconsistent middle team and we might not have had the pressure-free end to the season to play the good football that have got us the results in the last few months.
