Organised crime and the Columbian cartels. I would think it wasn't an accident they kidnapped a professional footballers parents. I would also think that the Mam was released to give the demands of how much money and where to deliver it to release the father. I don't know whether you have seen the Denzel Washington film Man on Fire it is obviously dramatised and fictional but it is a similar situation regarding kidnapping for ransom money.
