Mackem day out in Whitby

Loads of mackems in Whitby this afty. They had a big St. George Cross hanging from the bridge next to the dolphin.

I was proudly sporting my new Chuba Akpom t-shirt and as they spotted me crossing the bridge I got a good natured rendition of "We hate Boro". There was loads of them in the dolphin and plenty more scattered about Whitby.

Not sure if this was a one-off day trip or an annual event.

Fair play to them. They were enjoying themselves and not causing any trouble.

I guess it's like the equivalent of a couple of coach fulls of Boro fans turning up at South Shields or Whitley Bay and chanting Boro songs all afternoon.

I actually don’t think they would have tbh.
I'm not so sure.

They seem to have a lingering hatred for some clubs for one reason or another. They have a hatred of Wigan of all teams for some obscure reason (maybe due to the James McClean thing, or because Wigan once finished above them in division 3 )?, they have a hatred for Wycombe stemming from the covid season when Wycombe were awarded a play off spot instead of them, they detest Portsmouth, and they have a long standing hatred of Coventry for something that happened long before most of them were even born.

So a hatred of Bolton isn't out of the question since they were thrashed 6-0 by Bolton a couple of seasons ago in the third division (lol).

Mackems are the most thin-skinned fans in the land. Can't take a beating, or banter. :ROFLMAO:

sending them Steve Bruce?

Ah yeah, could be that.

In which case a hatred of Wigan is understandable.

I'm pretty sure it's just because Wigan got promoted automatically ahead of them last season, and Sunderland fans took issue with the Wigan fans not paying tribute to such a massive club whilst doing so.

That and Charlie Wyke leaving them to join Wigan in the same division, whilst also not respecting what a massive club they are.

Yep, could be this too. And this also reminds me of the hatred they had last season for yet another club - Stoke City. Watch this one become another "rivalry" for them this coming season, all thanks to Alex Neil ditching them for a bigger club.
