I think the idea is the badge is woven into the fabric as a repeated pattern like the transporter was on the 94/95 Robson era Boro shirt. However you can't see that unless up close, hence the team name across the chest. They are awful though, even our terrible Premier League 'slipped whiteband' kit was better and that's saying something.
