Marcus Betinelli stats

Recently we haven't faced many goal attempts (not just shots on goal) - I believe

v Cardiff 2
v Coventry 8
v Swansea 5

15 in total and 4 goals conceded - I would have expected around 30 for an average team against another average team and to concede 3 goals. So disappointing to concede 4 goals in only 15 attempts. To me thats a bad stat for the defence qualities of the team not just the keeper.

I have not saying Bettinelli is a great keeper, but lets look at the 4 recent goals.

Cardiff - a long throw defenders not marking tight enough for Morrison header and no defender on the line?
Coventry - another long throw - defending could have been better allowed ball to flash across and final challenge not good enough- goalie little chance
Swansea - first goal clear mistake by Howson and Bola, more so on Bola and it was really Howson's header shot was deflected in.
Swansea second goal, pen conceded by Saville, looked unlikley pen, so whole team unlucky. Pen well taken.

Comparisons with Randolph are not fully valid, because he is a step up financially also was injured a lot of last season when with us. The comparison should be with more with the 2 keepers we had at the end of last season and yes keepers on the same financial terms as our deal for Bettinelli.

I agree in the Summer, goal keeping is an area to explore what's available for our budget - say around £15k a week loan wages or small fee and same wages

Every save is a rebound and if your a striker shoot and wait as you’ll get a second chance. Just like guzan.

Jamal Blackman out of contract in the summer..

Subject of the most 'amusing' conversations I heard as a Boro fan...

I was stood on the Anfield concorse having a pie and heard some guy say behind me 'we've got Blackman in goal' to his mate/missus.

Some women clearly heard it and kicked off saying 'what do you mean by that?'. The lad said 'we have Jamal Blackman in goal'..... She said 'oh sorry I thought you said we had a black man in goal' 😂😂

Christ that was a long night. I remember sitting on a bus outside Anfield trying to get back into the city.
