Marvin Johnson

I'm sure Warnock said he'd be sitting down with all the players for individual one to one meetings over the first couple of days of this week, so I'm guessing this is still ongoing and it might be later this week before any news starts to comes out from this.

I agree, I'd keep him as he's a decent squad player. For starters it would probably cost us more to get someone in of equivalent ability, so he's worth the outlay as I wouldn't have thought he'd be on a fortune (relatively speaking).

Warnock said he'd be discussing the future with players on Sunday, Monday and today, so we may well hear something tomorrow about a retained list.

Might even take longer though.

He signed a new 1 year contract with us on the 13th of August last year, the season ended on the 22nd of July.

Would we be better getting the younger version in ?
He's 31 year old and on a reported £7,900 pw
Reece James - £3,700 pw - free
Fejiri Okenabirhie - £2,300 pw - free
Siriki Dembele - £2,600 pw - free
Corey Blackett Taylor - £1,400 pw - free
Dion Charles - £870 pw - free
Figures from salary sport site.
Even given a decent pay rise , those players would represent better value IMO
You can get a left back and a left winger for less than Johnson , and all younger with sell on value.

I was told he had cleared out his locker and likely not to return. Surely if we had interest then this would have been sorted before now.
certainly been one of our better performers this seasom.

Wouldn’t believe these sites you go on for players wages mate. I like Dembele from Peterborough , there could be a place in the squad for him and Johnson mind, different players.

I wouldn't be shocked if that's true, but he ended up an okay signing for us in the end.
He deserves respect for sticking it out beyond his contract to help keep us up.

Johnsons salary from the same site Block , so can't be far away.
James has 7 goals 3 assists ,and is a better defender than Johnson , age 27
Blackett Taylor can play LB LW and even played CF last game. Pace & Power. Age 23
Dembele has 12 goals 12 assists, age 24
, Okenabirhie has 14 goals 4 assists , age 25 , so both score and create .
Charles is a left sided forward who has 20 goals 4 assists age 25
All 3 score and create more , are younger and have sell on value .AND ARE FREE .
No brainer . One of each , one to challenge Bola , one to score and create .
Football is a simple game , pick a defender to defend and a forward to score and create , some are a mixture like James and CBT , but putting the ball in the onion bag is a gift , as is the ability to create for others.
I have faith all 5 would suit us.

Definitely worth another year with maybe an option for another. I can't fault him for the last 18 months.

It's alright saying he's on 8k a week (hardly a lot in Boro terms). I am sure if we sign Holliet he could be on twice that.

That said a club may offer him the same or more but a longer contract. I imagine the contract length will be the key issue in these unpredictable times.

Simply Red - Please can you put up their clubs as well.
Certainly redwurzel
Reece James Doncaster LB LWB
Corey Blackett Taylor.Tranmere , LB LWB AM CF

Reo Griffiths , Lyon B , CF , LW , RW , AM , age 20 .
96 games , 59 goals , 14 assists , ex Spurs . £1m

Haji Wright , Sonderjyske , Denmark, a USA u23 , CF LW RW , age 23 , h1.93m
33 games , 11 goals , 2 assists, £1m

Mikael Uhre , Brondby , CF, age 26 , h1.88m , top scorer in Denmark . Has the lot.
£1.5m but permit issues as he has no full caps.

Talent is out there , but we don't have the cash unless we sell.

Cheers Simply Red - I asked because scoring and assists in a lower division is obviously easier.

Alves scored more than a goal a game in Holland but that dropped to 1 in 5? in English Premier league.

Still a good scoring/creation record in any division is a start to narrow targets down with.

Based on this season's stats Charlie Wyke (free transfer) should be signed, but I would like to see him for 90 minutes over a number of games before commiting.

Neil says we have "an age imbalance" - so hes looking for more 25+ year olds with experience and a bit more muscle on them than a match stick.(y)

Alves problem wasn't a change in leagues , if the stories are correct
It was his liking for a tipple and a lady !
Wyke is having a great season, and Boro should have been watching him for most of the season to get a proper view.
Some on here doubt he would step up, and word has it he may get his chance to see at forest if posters on here are to be believed. We will soon find out.
Yes it is a step up, Jamal Lowe , And Ollie Watkins did it , there will be more.
Boro were aware of both but decided against them , bet they wished they had took the chance now.
I will add, Wyke is a target man , Lowe and Watkins use pace and ability , and natural athleticism as their tools, maybe a safer route when looking for a forward.
Keinan Davis, Dion Charles , Fejiri Okenabirhie, Siriki Dembele,Aaron Collins, Reiss Nelson, Carlos Mendes Gomes all have those tools. Those 7 would be exciting , with No fees.
