McNair fry dijksteel

We are conceding more goals because our wing backs are cracking going forward but less so going the other way, Jacob Greaves and a top defensive midfielder would go a long way to helping for me

It was broken. We didn't look good defensively last season. We conceded 4 in the last game against Preston and were battered by Sheff Utd as well. They bullied us completely
Preston game can be written off the whole team looked broken last day of the season and well if you think we were broken last season, it’s definitely not fixed with the amount of goals we have shipped in the first few games this season…

Priority was to sort up top with new strikers and then sort the midfield with replacing Tav and finding a new CDM whilst keeping the back 3 relatively the same as they work well as a “unit”

Leaving Fry out, playing Mcnair in midfield and having Bola in the back 3 is crazy and the amount of goals we have conceded so far this season proves it

I’m not so sure Greaves is a great defender - good on the ball and playing it out, but not an out an out defender. I think he’d be ok alongside defensive minded centre backs like Fry and McNair though

It was Lenihan’s best game yes, but it doesn’t alter the fact Fry is our best centre back - it should be Fry, McNair and one other as the three centre half’s imo, these two are unquestionably our best defenders

If Fry and McNair are 2 of the 3, who plays on the left? One of those 2 or the other?

Taking into account the fundamentals and critical roles the left and right CBs have in our team, my personal opinion is it’s either Fry OR Lenihan in the middle, Dijksteel OR McNair on the right and then Bola at the moment and the new left footed CB when he comes in.

I think we’ve signed Lenihan to come and compete with Fry. He’s very vocal on the pitch and let’s not forget was in Championship team of the year last year.

He could play on the right of the 3 alongside Dael in the middle, but then what with Dijksteel and Paddy? Too many cooks in the kitchen back there.

McNair played left most of the time last season

Have there been any transfer rumblings about Fry? Purely anecdotal, but I read a number of Twitter posts (always reliable...), hypothesising that an agreement was in place for him to move to a Premier League club and that explained him being in the bench. Could be a case of people looking for an explanation that isn't there. I suspect any potential move for someone like Greaves would only happen if he were to move on. I just don't see us adding another CB without one of the current group moving on.

I get the feeling Fry is out because of what he's doing in possession. Something he's certainly capable of sorting out, he's got the technical capability so it's probably more of a mental thing. I think, a bit like under Karanka, if you don't follow team instructions you're likely to lose your place.

Think Lenihen played right side of a 3 for Blackburn didn't he? So possibly an option and we could go Lenihen-Fry-McNair with current personnel and look pretty solid, but would lose something in an attacking sense.

Fairly sure Wilder's ideal is McNair-Lenihen-new signing (left footer).

Greaves seems to have turned into the Messiah over the past couple of games.
Greaves stats are perfect for a Wilder team, he had more progressive runs and passes than any central defender in the championship last season. His defensive stats weren't bad either. He's got height, pace, strength. He isn't the finished article particularly in positioning but he's light years ahead of Bola in that role. At 21 he's a prem player in the making and a top championship player already.

As it stands it has to be Lenihan-Fry-McNair. They should be defenders first and foremost. We have enough to attack minded players in the team without trying to turn CB’s into Lionel Messi.

George Friend in his prime would’ve been ideal for LCB in this system.

Fry is a better defender than Lenihan.

Lenihan is a better passer of the ball than Fry.

The way we play and set up, Lenihan's passing could well be crucial. A few times he smashed the ball long to the wingbacks and made it look easy.

Neither Lenihan or Bola were at fault for a midget heading in an unmarked equaliser from between Dijksteel and Jones.

Both had good games.
I would disagree, 3 centre backs should have been much narrower when defending a 2-1 lead in the last minute. All culpable, with Jones the least so.
