McNair, Fry, Spence & Tavernier to Leave?

According to Football League World, Middlesbrough star Paddy McNair ‘could be on the move this summer’.

McNair has arguably been Middlesbrough’s standout player this past season, chipping in with two goals and seven assists primarily from centre-back.

Although a natural midfielder, the Northern Ireland international has deputised at centre-back for the majority of the campaign due to injuries to Grant Hall, Dael Fry and Anfernee Dijksteel. (what a load of rubbish this is)

Middlesbrough are likely to want to keep hold of one of their prized assets this summer, but Football League World claim that they could lose McNair in the up and coming transfer window.

The report states that Boro would ‘certainly listen to offers’ if their valuation for the player was met and would welcome a sale due to purse-strings being tight at the club due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Teessiders do have a plethora of options at their disposal in the centre of midfield. Along with McNair, Neil Warnock’s side have Jonny Howson, Sam Morsy, George Saville, and Marcus Tavernier, whilst there is also the emergence of youngster Connor Malley to factor into the equation.

However, given the stellar season McNair has had, it is likely Warnock will want to build his promotion chasing side around him. He has expressed his admiration for the 26-year-old since taking over from Jonathan Woodgate last season and will see him as a vital part of his plans going forwards.

FLW speculated the departure in their ‘4 in, 4 out’ article, claiming McNair could be potentially leaving alongside Fry, who has attracted interest from Burnley, and Djed Spence who has been interesting the likes of Rangers and Wolves, as well as Marcus Tavernier.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Premier League side Burnley are eyeing a £10 million deal for Dael Fry this summer.

The Middlesbrough centre-back had attracted interest from Burnley in the January transfer window last year. The Clarets previously put a bid forward of £10 million but this was turned down outright.

Sean Dyche’s side are looking to reignite their interest in the summer. Both Ben Gibson and James Tarkowski are expected to depart Turf Moor and they are looking for replacements.

Fry has been a regular for Middlesbrough this season. The 23-year-old has played in 32 games out of a possible 38 for Neil Warnock’s side, missing five through injury and being an unused substitute in the opening day defeat to Watford.

In recent weeks he has formed a strong partnership with recent arrival Grant Hall and Warnock will look to keep the pairing together if they are to mount a promotion charge next season.

At present, Boro don’t have a lot of depth at centre-back. Fry and Hall aside there is no natural defensive cover. Nathan Wood was seen as a back up but is currently out on loan at Crewe Alexandra, whereas the likes of Paddy McNair, Anfernee Dijksteel and Marc Bola have all covered in the centre of the back line when needed, despite being midfielders and full-backs.

In recent weeks, Warnock spoke out about the interest surrounding Dael Fry in recent transfer windows. He claimed that for as long as he remains Middlesbrough manager, Fry will remain at the club.

It all seems pretty thin tbh

After what happened to Ben Gibson, cant see Fry going anywhere near Burnley. McNairI would rather keep but I wouldn’t be fussed if he left either. Same goes for pretty much any of our squad with the exception of Tav, Coulson. Spence. I know two of those had tough seasons but theyre worth giving another year

I would usually say this time of the year is "makeys up time" because all the players are on holiday, but this year?
I think our 3 main players have seen the progress we have made this year and listened to what NW has said about the future. They will still be here next season to give their all for the club. But the season after that if we fail to make further improvements then it would be understandable if Fry and Tav looked elsewhere

£10m is more like 10 quid these days — unless there’s a release clause in his contract I can’t see Boro releasing Fry or anyone else for that matter.

Fry and Tav are must keeps unless we receive silly offers for them. I really hope Tav stays and has a proper run in the team playing in midfield.

As for McNair, he's still a bit of an enigma. He was playing out of his skin at CB earlier in the season, but I thought he was inconsistent playing in a two. Think he's only really effective playing in a three, where he can be given full licence to carry the ball out from the back. I'm also not entirely convinced by him playing in midfield.

Of those 4 Spence can pack his bags.
The other three are crucial for us to progress.
Dysche can foxtrot oscar if he thinks he can steal Dael for 10M.
Who wants a locker in that craphole club up the East Lancs Road anyway?!

Christ, reading the post title on the forum alarmed me ... :ROFLMAO:

If we lost all four I'd give up on any hopes of a top-six challenge next season ... I'm expecting we will let Spence go but Fry, Tav and McNair are who we should be building around.

Money talks at end of the day, be interesting to see if for example a big offer is made for Fry and we accept it to fund other moves. I'd expect us to sell, then ar5e up signing the other targets we had in mind once he's gone. Haha. Our performance in the window last Summer worries me, I hope we're going to have a better shot at it this year, whatever it takes.

I quite like Spence, also a big fan of Coulson. But at least one will be on their way surely, judging by the noise around them since the middle of the season just gone. I'm convinced we can get more out of Coulson and he'd be valuable to next season's squad. I don't think awld Colin rates him enough though.

Isn't it about time we started being linked with a decent goalkeeper .. someone who can actually play in goal. 'Betts' was an utter fk up by Neil .. would Randolph consider coming back??😁

Desperate times call for desperate actions, Derby have offered serious money for Boro_Legend to be added to their board. I think we should sell. They have revalued their car park land at £3.49 to push the deal through
It's gonna take a lot more than that to prize our biggest asset away 👍

Agreed and considering he seems to take every set piece going, 7 assists doesn't seem that many from 46 appearances.

We need a DonkeyWatch for our own players.
