Starting with the game against Luton, on Saturday 10 December, MFC Foundation are trialling a matchday bus service from East Cleveland to the Riverside Stadium.

Initially, the bus will be a 21-seater until demand is established. Should there be a need, a larger bus will operate, however, this will be on a first come first served basis.
The cost is £2 for adults and £1 for under-18s and, as shown in the graphic below, the route will take in 14 pick-up points before landing at the stadium.

The bus will depart Loftus at 12.30pm and start the return 15-20 minutes after the game, depending on release time from the car park.
Seats must be pre-booked, with the last booking time at 12 noon the day before a game. To book a seat, ring 01642 757674 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
You can book up to three home matches in advance.

Superb - the Foundation have been working throughout East Cleveland for the past few years where one of the main problems is isolation, geographical and social and obviously deprivation. Lets hope this is a real success in allowing people to access the football. It is also a pointer towards a green solution. As football clubs get asked to cut back their carbon footprint the biggest of all impact is home fans travelling by car to the games, bigger than any other element. Considering the Riverside could be one of the first grounds to sink beneath the waves within the next few decades we will have to try and get more people sharing transport.

Thats a great shout.. I live in Brotton and would always drive but for the sake of a couple of quid it saves petrol and the walk to the ground from Dockside Road. Also means I can have a beer or two as well!

Fair play to the Club for doing all they can to get people from the outlying areas into the games.

Having once lived in Skelton I think it's a great initiative. Public transport was not the best at that time and despite the expansion of new housing in that area in recent years I doubt that it's improved.

Important point. Travelling to games by bike seems almost nonexistent but there's nowhere to leave it, is there? Something for the club to look at?

Great shout capy. As a teenager I regularly went to Ayresome on my bike along with hundreds of others. Some of the locals made a few extra quid on matchdays by charging a few coppers to leave your bike in their back yard.

I've not even noticed any bicycle racks at the Riverside, although there may be some tucked away. It would do the club's green credentials no harm to provide some secure lockable units that you see at the likes of York's Park and Ride. Something to bring up at the fan's forum perhaps?

EDIT Crossed with your post rob.

Concur entirely with your sentiments.
Its an issue everywhere.
"Bike space" usually means a couple of scaffold poles.

The railway line from Saltburn to Boulby used to run for freight only from the Potash mine - is it still working?

£2 is a great price, something wrong if they don't fill it - on the Arriva bus from Guisborough it was about £6 return in 2016 - its about £2.80 in fuel. I used to pay £2.50 in 1984 from Whitby on the bus. If I lived on the route I would be on it.

Evening games @ 7.45pm were impossible on public transport in East Cleveland.

Anyone with an hour and a half to spare?
This is the journey from Boulby to Tees Yard on a class 70 - last year [2021].

In the tunnel and up over the road bridge - the track appears to be chock-and-key bullhead rail.
After the semaphor signals it appears to be continuous-welded.
What an amazing feat of engineering.
Its a bit of a dogs hind-leg, but it wouldnt be imnpossible to upgrade it for passenger running.
Theres a lot of house - building took place since that was cut.
Bout time someone took up the batton.....
