Millwall will be looking forward to playing us on Saturday.

I cant recall one poster coming on here after the wins over Spurs & Luton to say we're just papering over the cracks or, we're not good enough for promotion, by all means have your say on last nights performance, I was annoyerd & said as much, it was as bad as anytime over the last few seasons, we're all Boro fans & want whats best for the club, but come on change your thinking on each result is crazy
I'm certainly not ruling us out of the playoffs & after that anything is possible & I never buy into too early to go up rubbish, you go up at the earliest possible time you can
I have had concerns about our squad for some time.

We have started to look vulnerable at the back, Jones seems to be our only reliably creative midfielder and our strikers are duds.

I have posted this before and and also said I think we have a good manager who I hope can make the difference.

Something has to change away from home or we will miss out.

To be fair to Wilder it is a big ask with this squad.

they would have looked at Barnsley and Sheffield and realised a stern press forward with rattle us and we make mistakes ... not rocket science but we dont seem to handle it away from home

not sure they have the players to do that effectively, other teams have tried and tired, then we have taken advantage.

We're not the finished article, but we are still one of the better teams in the division

A colleague of mine is a Millwall ST, he says despite decent results at home, they are playing pretty poorly, but taking the chances when they come. He is genuinely baffled how they are up where they are.

Wilder needs to get a big reaction.

"Millwall are a steady team, they aren't a patch on Sheff Utd."

Er........we've taken six points from them this season. Maybe we just got lucky, eh?

Saturday is a game between two teams who are slightly dipping out of form. Nine of our first team are injured and they're all knackered. A 0-0 wouldn't surprise me.

I think there’s a danger of exaggerating our away form TBH. We were battered by a better, stronger team last night. Barnsley was very poor. We lost at Bristol City but were the better side, that was a case of missed chances and the opposition being clinical rather than us being soft or outplayed.

Before that we were excellent at QPR, knocked Manchester United of the cup on their own patch, drew at Stoke with a clean sheet and won at Blackpool and Mansfield.

Three straight defeats on the road isn’t great, obviously, but for me it’s about squad depth and make-up. We’re a couple of defenders and midfielders short at the moment. Sporar has gone missing. The loans haven’t hit the ground running when it comes to goals. It’s going to be like this until the summer and we can address the weaknesses in the team properly.
Our away form in the league has been dire.

Our last victory in the league was last year.

Even then we got out of jail in the last minute against a Covid ridden, scraped together side with a fair number of rookies. We did not play well.

December 29th. Three days prior to this year beginning but I take your point.

Who were the rookies in Blackpool’s team, just out interest?

I might be tempted to play with just one out and out forward possibly Coburn who is our most physical forward and get some of our more light weight players playing off him, but quickly available to get behind the ball. We can't afford to give Millwall any space in our half, like we did against SU.

Blackpool team that started at Huddersfield the Saturday before the Boro game:

Grimshaw, Lewis-Gabriel, Ekpiteta, Gretarsson, Husband, Bowler, Dougall, Carey, Anderson, Madine, Yates.

Team v Boro:

Grimshaw, Sterling, Ekpiteta, Keogh, Gretarsson, Husband, Connolly, Dougall, Anderson, Madine, Yates.

Bowler came off the bench, as did Northern Ireland international Lavery.

The truth is that Blackpool were more or less full strength. They had a couple of young lads on the bench because of Covid worries but there actual team that night was strong. In fact it was stronger against us than it was Huddersfield, where they led 2-1 but lost 3-2 after two late goals.

It was a good win for us against a side having a good season IMO.

not sure what your point is.

I'm saying Millwall are steady. They are not spectacular, they are not able to reach the highs of Sheff Utd, but they rarely dip into the kind of performance we gave yesterday. They have a decent defence but really struggle to create much

Sheff Utd, have some excellent players, a decent size squad, lots of energy and a philosophy that is fairly well embedded. They are capable of the spectacular performance that Millwall maybe can't do. I would think most fans agree with that.

As for us, philosophy is starting to land, but we now have some challenges to overcome to take it to the next level. Our lows can be low usually through mistakes, but for about 20 games now, we have always had very strong and creative spells in every game, including last night.

Coburn is tall, but I'm not convinced he is that 'physical' yet. He's a kid still and fairly skinny

My point is that we are better at playing football than they are, as evidence by beating them twice. Further, I've not been very impressed with them in general. There's only one side in this league with real quality and that's Fulham, much as I loathe them. The rest are much of a muchness, down to about Cardiff.

Millwall slightly dipping out of form? They’ve won 4 of their last 5 league games and drew at Blackburn in the other. Only Fulham have beaten them in the last 8 matches, or since the start of February. I’d love to see an in form Millwall if that’s them enduring a slight dip.

Trust me, Viv. We were terrific against QPR, Derby and Sheffield United, but have slipped a lot in the last two and were very fortunate to draw last night. The injurieshave taken their toll, with nine first team players out.
So what you are saying, Rod is we have no excuses then! Just how the Boro like it!
