Minister says UK will have to raise retirement age after election

What age was it France were protesting over?
If it goes up here everyone will just grumble and then forget about it.
They were kicking off at it being raised to 64...🙄 More protests planned this month apparently.

Tbh I quite like Uruguay's system which is on a sliding scale depending on how many years you've worked. If you've worked and paid taxes and contributions for 30 years plus you get to retire at 60. 25-30 years you retire at 65 and if you've worked and paid in from 15-25 years you retire at 70.

The most of the lifetime wallers aren't mentioned though, guessing they don't get a wrap?

Once the retirement age gets right up to the point where an awful lot of people's parents were in very poor health, surely they will just think f*** this for a game of soldiers, what's the point working?

Got to hand it to the French they don’t fook about… forget slow walks and protests… they just go straight to burn cars out and riot

I wouldn’t worry too much about it - Ai is going to take most jobs within 20 years or so anyway. The question is what are they going to do with all the useless eaters ……..

Apologies, I didn't see this thread and posted the same link. I have copied and pasted that post over to here.

Mel Stride mentioned today to reporters that his successor would need to raise the retirement age to 68. He also mentioned that there were no plans to change the triple lock on raising pensions in the next Conservative manifesto but didn't guarantee it would be retained.

I am one of the millions who have recently taken early retirement and one of the people the government is trying to entice back into work (lazy git, won't have it). I feel I have worked hard over my years in heavy industry and just as hard when I worked in education. I feel I have more than done my bit and my body was telling me it was time to stop.

I am digressing a little here and my main question is, after seeing the riots in France, would you be willing to protest to keep the retirement age at 67 or would you be happy to continue until you are 68?

Some things are worth fighting for and I think this is one of them.
