Mobile broadband recommendations

Just back from holiday to find yet another letter from Virginmedia about a price increase. Stuffed for broadband as we're too far from the exchange to get decent speed and only cable in the road is VMs. I expect, despite being out of contract, VM will tell me I can't switch to a broadband only package without a phone.
Anyone using mobile broadband for their home Internet? In TS8.

Have you looked into satellite broadband?

I was just wondering if he could get better speeds that may justify a bigger price.
I'm not sure we need better speeds than we have. I'm just sick of the VM (and others) model of continually paying extra for having been with them for years. I have renegotiated with them numerous times but their latest marketing policy seems to involve not answering the phone then if you do get through the call will magically disconnect part way through the conversation.

I phoned VM and cancelled last Monday, I was paying £86 with an impending rise,
They called me next day and offered new price of £37 for 18 months, I refused their offer as already taken up new service with youfibre.

I see that the Openreach people are installing fibre locally so I'm going to investigate that avenue. I've been with Virgin since it was NTLworld and as a beta tester with Comcast when the first fibre broadband was installed and I can't fault their service in terms of uptime, but in terms of pricing they just push and push and now I'm pushing back.

Anyone have or know what the craic is with Openreach in terms of pricing for services?

Three 5G broadband is supposed to be quite good but not sure about coverage. I think it's variable across TS8.

Openreach provide the network used by hundreds of service providers. It is those service providers that you would look at for prices 👍

As more suppliers enter the market, youfibre etc, you would expect prices to start dropping, same way as mobile sim only prices have plummeted recently, the only expensive contracts seem to be where the phone is added to the deal, and even these are much more competitive than a few years ago.
Regarding 5g broadband it really depends on what you are using it for. Streaming tv and internet browsing should be fine, you might have problems if you have multiple users accessing WiFi at the same time. You can do a quick check with your phone using one of the many speed checker apps available to see what you can get, if near a mast in an urban area most providers should gove similar results, might be different in rural areas such as on the moors, etc.

If you not concerned with speed then you won't need 5g mobile BB. My 4g EE mobile broadband in my home in TS10 can outperform my normal landline Shell Energy bb. Although not always consistent , it rarely drops below 5 . Today its giving me 24

If you or anyone in your house does any gaming, forget mobile broadband. Pings are far too high, upload speeds usually far too slow... it's not the answer if you play games.
