Morgan Rogers, starts for Villa.

Bit early to say that really

Lads just had a run out in Europe against Ajax, is fighting to get minutes in team that is currently 4th in the premier league, I'm sure he is training with much better players and staff than we have. I'm sure it's preferable to getting more minutes so he can get drubbed by Rotherham.
And if Villa are, as my Villain work colleague feels, "running on fumes" he'll get more game time in a side at the business end of the league so no harm done. The test comes next season then, once they make any squad changes they feel they need to kick on, whether he's done enough to stay in their plans, but even then another Prem club is more likely than back to the Championship I would have thought?

I do feel like there is the beginnings of a shift of attitudes with professional players. Although Mogan Rogers does disprove my theory.
I think we are seeing young players start to manage their careers better. Taking steps to pick the right moves, not follow the money as much and build a reputation in the game with the end goal being that dream move to a top top club.
Bellingham is the first player that springs to mind. Sancho another one (despite the optics on his time at United suggesting that move was a failure).

I hope to see RVDB do similar. He's already turned down some of europe's elite to come to the Boro (personally calling the other teams to explain his decision to not join them - classy).
You are still going to get your Spencer's of this world who are happy to jump at the first chance of a big pay day, but more and more often, young players are not following that path to glory.

Not really sure how either of those players prove your theory. Bellingham played in Birmingham academy from 8 years old. He took a risk and made a big jump forward at 17 years old to join Dortmund. He then took another risk and another jump forward to join Real Madrid at 20. He's succeeding because he's good enough.

Sancho played in Watford academy. Went to Man City at the first opportunity. Took another risk going to Dortmund after he fell out with City. Tried to make the jump to United but failed and is now back at Dortmund.

They both did the opposite to VDB. I personally think if players are good enough they will push through.

Dortmund are a bit of an exception anyway. It's basically like Europe's top finishing school for promising talent.

He's getting more game time than I thought he would. It'll be interesting to see how well he develops over the next few years, shame it's not with us. Hope it works out for him.

Just been named in the U21s for the first time. All hopefully things which lead to some of the clauses being activated for us.
This will be the last time he's eligible for them as well. He's 22 in the summer. Surprised that they've called him up because of that reason to be honest.

I don't think Hackney will be able to play for them again now as he is also 22 in the summer.

You only have to be under 21 when the tournament qualification campaign begins, you don't need to be 21 or under when the tournament starts.

So both Hackney and Rogers will still be eligible for Euro 2025.

I thought that was the case for when tournaments start. Didn't realise it was when the qualifying campaign started

Good news that he has picked for the under 21s. I ould have thought if he pplays for England at any level it will trigger some cash for the Boro.

If someone offered my double my salary to go to a top 8 Premier League Club and I was playing for a top half Championship club I probably would have gone. Add in it was close to where I was brought up and had family and friends close by. The danger for Morgan Rogers is that Villa may not have come back for him in the Summer.

Hope he does well.

I don't blame him for wanting that move, and it's in our interest to have as many clauses activated as possible, which means its good for us if does well. I don't think we know what they're contingent on do we?

That said, if we manager to get the full 16m, I think we've got the best of that deal.
