As far as I’m aware , Morocco and Spain have always hated each other.

It’s not a case of Morocco = right and Spain = wrong either . The Islamic moors colonised Spain . I imagine that’s where a lot of resentment may stem from

Yeh, put it on for 2nd half, wouldn't believe that there's a quarter final place up for grabs! Also the ITV commentary team are absolutely dire as well.

It's more recent than that.
1492 was the end of the final Islamic kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula, and there were plenty of wars and conflicts between their precursor countries after that.

But there are loads of examples of countries and people holding a grudge over issues from hundreds of years ago.

But there are also far more recent issues between Morocco and Spain than that.

Spanish colonisation in the 20th century.

Spain has two cities as enclaves on the Moroccan coastline and there are often diplomatic incidents surrounding them.

That and issues surrounding the Western Sahara.
