Does any other insect make that horrible high pitched buzzing right in your shell like?

Sounded exactly like a mosquito, but I jumped up to confront it and was going to stick the nut on it but it was nowhere to be seen. The room's a bit of a tip so it could've blended in.

I elected to kill the most mosquito-looking fly I could find and to my surprise it left a red dot. Human blood?? Or bit of fly?

Insectologists, explain!
