Mountain bike recommendations

Hi all

My lad is going to secondary school in September and needs a new bike as his is cream crackered

Currently has a small frame Giant with 26in wheels so needs something about the same size

Any recommendations for something that isn’t budget but isn’t too flash to get noticed and stolen on the first day 😂

At that age, I got my kids Trek Marlin 6's (still got one in the garage with 29" wheels) but for the youngest he was smaller than the other two at the same age so needed a lighter bike. I stuck with an Isla bike hybrid.

My son and his missus have Specialized Enduro's the mans bike cost a little over £5k and his missus £3k. Not sure what your budget is...

Isn’t Carrera Halfords’ own brand?

I’ve actually had two bikes from Halfords. They both sort of did the job perfectly well for the price point they were at.

Carerra is Halfords own brand I think.

unless he is going mountain biking don't get him a mountain bike, will be heavier than it needs to be and won't need a lot of suspension on those roads and cycle paths

Get a hybrid

Yeah this is what I’m thinking now. Seen a specialized on bike shack in Stockton for less than 200 quid!
Once bought an entry level Specialized for my wife and it was SO heavy. (there are a million and one Les Dawson jokes that could spring from this sentence :D )

Vitus bikes are very good and at the mo cheap as chain reaction is going or has gone into administration or try pink bikes online for a second hand bike, specalized good bikes but have poor compnents compated to other manufacturers

I wouldn't go for a hybrid for your son, they aren't very "cool". Secondary school is hard enough as it is, but each to their own.

Skinnergate cycles in Stockton has plenty of stock & they'll look after you. Do you have a cycle-to-work scheme at all with your work?

Yeah defo not going for a hybrid for that reason. Looking for a hard tail mtb for sure

Thanks for the heads up on the cycle to work scheme… totally forgot about that

I’m selling a Sirrus hybrid if you’re interested, send us a message. Paid £600 for it brand new, got it on that bike to work scheme and then got a new job I had to drive to 😂
