Music downloads.

Since pirate bay etc and the YouTube rip sites went down, is there anywhere you get free music from these days, asking for a friend...

For most users, just paying for spotify is probably the easiest way. Plenty of torrent sites just about. There are programs that use usenet and you tell it what artists youd like and can go down to albums and singles and what quality youd like it at and it will scour and download and organise for you but again, lot easier to just use spotify unless you really want to collect digital music.

It's for use with DJ software/hardware & cant get away with a linked music site as I've limited internet connection in the area where I have my equipment set up, I also like to take a usb if playing elsewhere. (Spotify won't link with recordbox anyway) I do buy my fair share but to keep up to date can be expensive and I will only buy songs that I know I'll be using long term.

How are artists supposed to survive if they can't even get the pennies it costs for your friend to download music?
I'm not in the slightest concerned for that, the current model rewards the leeches too much anyway while the artist is shafted, I'll bet I spend more than the average person on music overall and contribute, same argument for going to the Cinema or Boro games Vs owning a fire stick so dismount from that moral high horse plz. and there is an element of true art being shared among the ppl. I'm not gunna lose sleep over Downloading and playing some obscure Dutch Disco version of Dolly Parton cover that I probably can't easily buy legally anyway.

Spotify, QoBuz or whatever are so cheap for what you get there's hardly any point in looking for free downloads 🤷
There is an argument for it, but again it depends how into your music you are. For example I used to have a brilliant remix of enjoy the silence by depeche mode on Spotify and it vanished one day after going purple for a long time so seems it was completely delisted.

When I use playlist transfer services between Spotify, tidal, AM and Qobuz there's always a lot of songs it can't locate, you don't really get that with an offline collection, and with the right software you get the same on-the-go library and can stream remotely but most people won't go to that level of effort

Some people also just like to collect things even digitally

You're just a thief, taking what doesn't belong to you and you cannot justify it whatever you say.

I'm a music professional, I have a record company, I've been in business 30+ years, I work hard like everybody else, and depend on getting paid for my work.

Yet people like you sneer and scoff. For all you know I'm the person who made the Dolly Parton cover.

I torrent, and use Spotify Premium Mod APK on android, so Spotify get nothing from me

On the other hand i spend alot of money on live gigs and merchandise, which goes directly to the Artist

Amazingly, Soulseek is still a thing and does the job.

Used it recently to get digital versions of a few Blade releases I've got on vinyl but aren't anywhere near the streaming services, before you all get on your high horses. Not that I care.

I almost got banned for doing that. They pick up on you downloading.
Not something I do. But I'm aware it can be done. I have downloaded a couple of tracks using that method but can't remember why if I'm honest, I have a paid subscription to Spotify and pretty much unlimited data...

...there was a particular reason but I can't think now what it was 🤷
