For it to be great, does it have to do something for you, remind you of a good time in your life, or just be a good tune?
Lots of great musicians at Glastonbury but not many are making an impression. But I'm not stoned anyway so maybe that's what's wrong!

All of them for me.

Good or catchy tune, good lyrics, perhaps one band member stands out like a vocalist, drummer or guitarist that elevates the song, but yeah sometimes a song evokes such a memory that it can invoke an emotional response.
The last time that I saw Bowie's Biscuit Tantrum live they were amazing. The guitarist was a bit rubbish but that bloke doing the percussion was outstanding.

I think it could be anything really. My favourite band’s lyrics are absolutely *****, but they came into my life at a time where I needed something to feel like I belonged to.

Caught up with an old Nick Drake R4 programme last night and he was just a great writer and guitarist. It's songs for me. I've always been a sucker for vocal harmonies too, but then again Nick's stuff was largely bereft of them. But as I've gotten older, my tastes have definitely changed. Music I once laughed at - trad folk music for example - I now love. I think stuff just calls out to you when you're ready to hear it.
