Next Season is Massive

If Carrick stays he risks his reputation if we get nowhere near. There is a real chance that West Ham sack Moyes and it could be soon and when they do, Carrick will be top of the list. He has a strong reputation already and may decide its too good to turn down, especially with promotion almost certainly not happening.

We have but i don't see that £18.6m being used solely for new signings, do you?

Hackney, like Carrick is highly thought of. He is a big part of the current England U21s and is constantly linked with a move, i think this summer he will be snapped up and we wont stand in his way.

Agree re Howson but like everything, its who comes in. This is the risk, whatever budget we have, whatever loans we have, every player is a risk at this level and you need a lot of things/luck to line up for it be successful - like we had in January last season. This season, the opposite.

I hope i am wrong on all points by the way, just my feelings right now
Cheers for your thought out reply

If even West Ham sack Moyes would they appoint a manager who has been seen to go backwards this year in the Championship. I doubt it - Its bascially a less than 50/50 chance he will end up at West Ham this Summer possible less than 1 in 4 chance. Saying he has a strong reputation are you sure that has not been tarnished a bit for example with a 6-1 defeat @ Chelsea. Lat season we used to hear on SSN - "Carrick doing a great job at Boro" - I haven't heard this season.

I agree we will not spend £18.6m possibly £4 or £5m of it, but some will be spent to replace Rogers and Crooks who cost around £2.5m in total when we bought them. The key thing there is no money pressure to sell. Unlike a lot of Championship clubs.

Fry was captain of England Under 21s and a bigger part of the Under21s than Carrick who has only started appearing recently and playing against the weaker teams. Fry was linked with expensive moves, but he never moved. No one has bid for Hackney that any of the media etc are aware of. I still think its an odds aginst chance he will move this Summer. Hes got a while left on his contract. His situation to me is different to say Akpom and Rogers, the last two big moves.

I try to be logical opposed to relying on feelings based on what has happened in January. I know its a temptation to see what has recently happened and think that will be the same in 6 months time that how ther typical human brain is wired.

Not at all I’m the biggest optimist there is.

But what evidence have you seen that makes you think we’ll make these changes.

support the club. Whilst things look grim at the moment, I am proud that we still have a club that we all love and whatever league we are in.

No evidence except that we have a top class manager and I still believe that. He will find players that we don't know about yet who will come to love the club as much as Matt Crooks did. We also have a fan base on the whole that when things go wrong, they rally and get behind what we are trying to do. It seems odd to say that from reading some of the posts in the last few days, but we will come again. I always have Hope when it comes to supporting Boro. I've done so for 50 years, remembering the early eighties when things were really desperate. I'm not going to give up now

I think we will spend more than £5m and less than £30m.

To be fair, I don’t think anyone in the league will be spending £30m
I think our spending will very much depend on who leaves - for example if Hackney and McGree were to move on there’d be perhaps £20m + going into the coffers. We are already in a pretty good position in terms of FFP, we also have the money from Rogers and Crooks sales, so there could be some fairly hefty incomings this summer

Gibson is at a fork in the road with the club. We have a fabulous manager the best in years do the club properly back him or do we half heartedly continue the way we are going and risk losing him. My money is on him leaving after next season and everyone thinking if only.

The incomings wouldn't compensate for the loss of McGree and Hackney

Really hope McGree and VDB leave. I think it might be too early for VDB. If there have been any scouts watching Hackney recently, he isn’t going to the Premier League. If we can hold two of those three that would be great. How are Nkrumah and Agyemang doing? Ready for the step up next season? Less injuries, a few signing and a couple of loans and can see us easily challenging for the top two. Get on a good early run and we will be the team to catch.
Caveat, I also think that if we were to play Real Madrid on Saturday, that if they have a bit of an off day and we are on form then we would win 4 nil.
