Nhs Dentists

My Dentist in Eaglescliffe has gone private from today, does anyone know any NHS Dentists available at the moment. Thanks in advance

Zero chance of finding one. My friend is an NHS dentist. He has not accepted new patients for over 3 years. They get around a hundred calls a week from patients wanting to register. All get turned away.

It's disgraceful. I moved home to about 20 miles away but can't find a local dentist accepting NHS patients so I'm sticking with my original one.

Been without a dentist for 3 years after moving, going to have to go private if nothing changes soon.

I suppose that's the intention.

Mine just stopped catering for NHS patients. £80 for a check up now. I’ll sort myself out with the Fuji 9 thanks.

The last NHS dentist I saw there couldn’t make the chair go up and down, which I assume is the first lesson on day one of Dentist School. So maybe for the best he doesn’t get near my teeth if he’s failing that.

I live in richmondshire and my dentist is in Redcar, was only lucky enough to get that because my mates wife works there and added me on to their NHS customer list despite them not taking new patients after my previous Darlington based one binned me off during covid.

This is the one I go to. I paid £25 for a checkup and clean a few weeks ago. It says it is accepting new patients?

Most say they are, but not new adult NHS patients when asked.

Here is the best bet to find one...

Looks like a few have opened up!

My dentist was taken over by a private firm and the standard really has dropped. They tried selling me £10k worth of implants 😡 and some sort of plan.

Sat in waiting room listening to complaints coming in 😞. I’d leave but have nowhere else to go !

My NHS dentist cancelled 3 appointments in a row including the last one as I was actually sat in the waiting room, and then kicked me off the list because I hadn’t seen a dentist in 2 years…

Only option was to go private, it’s a significantly better service but £160 for a check up/polish with no treatment even required. Dread to think of the cost if something actually goes wrong

I’ve gone every six months for years, make the next appointment as I leave the previous. This time when I came out I tried to make the next appointment and they said they don’t book that far ahead now, I need to ring up a few weeks ahead. Hmm 🤔 I can see the game here I suspect.

Basically no hope wherever you live, absolutely shocking state of affairs. I don’t understand why it isn’t a political issue dentistry is basically going private by stealth

I’ve seen a couple of signs outside a few dentists in Leeds saying taking new nhs patients, can’t remember names though one was visible from the ring road just spotted a couple recently when working that way.

Bit of a drive but could be cheaper than the private even factoring the travel.

Can people clear something up for me. Are NHS dentists totally free or was there always some charge anyway?
General charges since 1952, but you may not have experienced it previously due to age or being in education, benefits etc

Also something often misunderstood is there are no NHS dentists, just dentists that do NHS work. NHS doesn't pay for training like they do nurses etc, nor pay for buildings, staff etc

They just have a contract with the NHS and that only funds so much, if dentists choose to take that work on.

That is why there is such a shortage, as the current contract is fairly crap

Roseworth Dental Centre, where we have been NHS patients for about 20 years, is now private from 2024. We searched the immediate area, and beyond, to find an NHS dental practice but after at least 20 calls, we are still unsuccessful and faced with having to pay around £40 per month each to join a private health plan such as DenPlan.
It's not good enough, we as taxpayers pay National Insurance for our health care, train dentists, doctors and other health care professionals but are getting less and less from the system as practioners abandon the NHS without a care for anything but making more money for themselves.

My dentist in Norfolk also went totally private ar the turn of the year. At my age and the state of my teeth, DenPlan isn't an option. I think I'll start saving to have them all out.

All private dentists treat children, up to the age of 18, on their NHS list. Why? because it secures their NHS pension on retirement.
