I seem to remember there was strong competition between Telsa/Westinghouse and Edison over which type of electricity supply should be used in the USA. DC was Edison with low voltage, but needing lots of generating stations, while AC/DC with very high voltages ws Telsa/Westinghouse which could be tranmitted over long distances. Edison kept saying AC/DC was highly dangerous and eletrocuted and killed an elephant to prove it. He also was keen to experiement on convcted murderers in the USA with using electricity to execute. Some of the early electric chair deaths were absolutely horrendous taking over a hour to kill someone and effectively frying them. Edison called it a humane death!
