Similar to the game against Malta....pretty much a dead rubber.

Rico Lewis is set to start.

Think this lad has what it takes to take that 3rd starting CM spot, alongside Rice & Jude.

Gallagher Henderson and Phillips aren't good enough IMO. But Rico Lewis might actually be the answer.
 
I'd be happy to see Philips and Henderson completely left out of the squad, but cant see that happening.

Re Gallagher, the jury is definitely out. He's busy, but that just isn't enough really, is it? Loads of energy, but I struggle to see how he influences a game other than press press press, which maybe what Southgate wants.
 
Gallagher seems to be in favour at the moment, also Poch seems a fan so happy for him to be the Henderson successor. Need a mix of different types in the squad. Wonder how Trippier leaving the squad for personal reasons will impact, I notice White hasn't been picked since similar happened at the World Cup and read that apparently Sterling isn't getting picked because he dropped out of the squad in March.
 
I think Gallagher should be in the squad, but that just highlights how poor our backup midfielders are. Jude and Rice are clear of anyone in that department, and the way Southgate sets us up, we need a 3rd man in midfield (to allow Jude to be that #10 as such). The drop off between Rice and Phillips, or Jude and Gallagher etc is huge.

At the moment, it's probably between Henderson, Phillips and Gallagher for that 3rd CM spot? Which is a shame, because all 3, currently, aren't good enough if we want to be successful in the Euro's.

But hopefully between now and the Euro's, Lewis can take that spot, as I think he has what it takes.

Pretty much? It has ceased to be. It is pushing up the daisies. It is an ex rubber.
 
I think it would be interesting to see how Stones and Rice would perform together as the two sitters.

Only issue of course is that we're limited in terms of quality when it comes to centre halves, and I doubt Southgate would want to break up the Stones/Maguire pairing.
 
Surely Italy can't fail again!

I also can't remember a time when the current champions didn't qualify for a major tournament?
