Nostalgic football podcasts update

So Quickly Kevin is going to continue with Chris Scull only, with a new name, and be about the 00s rather than the 90s. Good news, potentially.

But another very interesting looking one is produced by The Overlap team and presented by the magnificent Jonathan Wilson, called "It Was What It Was". I don't think its JUST about Tony Mowbray though....

Interesting. I think The Overlap put out some really good quality stuff, so will definitely be listening to that. Where have you seen/heard this btw?

I'll also look out for Quickly Kevin if it's going to be a bit more recent, I listened to a few and enjoyed them but 00s is definitely more my thing.

I need to catch up on QKWHS. don't know if I'll enjoy a 00s one so much. It's annoyed me they haven't had bob on to do a Boro episode when you consider some of the club themed episodes they've had. We where a massive pay of 90s football in this country and don't feel like we've ever really been covered.

Will give the Jonathan Wilson one a listen when I get chance 👍

They don't cover specific clubs though, there have been a few episodes starring players who've played for us (Robson, Merson etc). But we were only in the top flight 4 out of the 10 seasons covered, and they only really stray from the top flight if they're reviewing a documentary about a lower league club (of which we never did one).

And if we're honest, there's only really the Boro 96/97 season that is really worth talking about from the 90s to the 'wider' football community.

92/93 - we were relegated
95/96 - was fairly uneventful
98/99 - we were decent I guess

They've had plenty of comedians on talking about their clubs. Some who where league 1/2 clubs.

David earl doing an exeter episode.
Rhys james with spurs
Tom Davis - west ham.
Blackburn - ian moore
Forest- matt forde
Torquay - charlie Baker

And I will be missing a few more. They tweeted me back ages ago saying bob mortimer was in the working and for what ever reason it's not happened. Would of made for a great episode

Fair enough. Well I'd be more than happy to hear that, but other than Bob there isn't really anyone to ask is there? Chris McGlade??

Yeah obviously their schedules haven't been able to match up but I was excited waiting for it to come after they tweeted me and it never did. I feel cheated 🤣

Would have been good one.

Will be interesting if they got him on 00s, to talk about our cup win and European runs rather than 2 relegations and 4 lost cup finals.

Will will the new show be called
He's told everyone to try and guess. I imagine its based on a piece of commentary from the 00s, much like the original show's name, but he hasn't announced it yet (though he has bagged the twitter handle).

I've been trying to remember the commentary from Beckham's free kick v Greece.

"Beckham could raise the roof" ?

Speaking of QKWHS the Barry Fry and Danny Baker episodes from the last couple of weeks are definitely worth a listen, be a shame when it finishes.

As for the new one, the title could be, it gets better and better and better, the final goal commentary from the Germany 1 England 5 game

Thanks for that, I could listen to Danny Baker read the phonebook so I'll give it a listen.

I wasn’t blown away with the Danny Baker episode. Loosely related football tales but not the usual offering from QKWHS. Plus, they didn’t get chance to ask him any questions as he was waffling on non-stop.

I actually preferred the Glenn Hoddle episode.

I'm heading to the quickly Kevin last live show in London next week.

Amazing podcast over the years.

I believe that they have tried and tried to get in with Bob (as well as David Batty 😂) buy not had any joy
