Not seen this before - Wilf Mannion

A few older relatives have told me about this and I'm not sure I believed them at the time - its just incredible (y)
Dad saw his last game when he was 82. I remember him crying at the end in Cardiff. But he was adamant that this was the best performance of any player in a Boro shirt.

I played against Wilf Mannion.......well Wilf Mannion Jnr actually, he obviously wasn't as good as his dad.

Not on FB so can't see what's on the link. https://spartacus-educational.com/MIDDmannion.htm and https://www.mfc.co.uk/sites/default...uth Bank's 'Golden Boy (Black Path Press).pdf are interesting reads. I thought the attendance mentioned for the testimonial in 1983 being above average must be a typo but checked and was quite shocked our crowds were so low in 80s, lowest average was 5,135 in 1984/5. There was also an earlier benefit match for Wilf at Claireville Stadium on 21/1/68. I also had a recollection there was a benefit match for him at South Bank but can't find any mention anywhere.

Sad that. I remember seeing him at D Long/British Steel either Lackenby or Cleveland around that time. Reckon the previous time I saw Wilf I was on my dad's shoulders at Ayresome Park.
Had some sort of health and safety job checking fire extinguishers.
