Is his salary outside our budget ? Could we afford to make an offer for him in the summer ? Is there a possibility that an agreed fee is in place in same way Greenwood has ?

Realistically the only way we can afford him is to sell someone else Hackney / VDB , or use the Rodgers money, though I expect we’re keeping that for someone else.

He played better against Norwich, and seems to have played ok yesterday
He was poor in the previous few games - so hopefully the upturn in form is as he gets back to full form after the injury
It could be that being next to Barlaser was hindering him, but I'll be positive and assume having Howson next to him has improved him (and maybe would Barlaser too)

I expect Hackney is leaving but his drop in form/injury might lower the fee..

I thought OBrien was man of the match yesterday. Well between him and Rav.

Was quality. Travelled well with the ball. Found some good passes. Even got to the by line a few times and put a couple of good balls across.

Also defended well

One of his best performances for us

Thought he was excellent against Leicester, but seems to go into his shell when the team are up against it and are looking for leaders.
The other thing that I keep coming back to is our midfield lack physicality at times.

I think he was brought in to play alongside Hackney. The poor form of Engel initially stopped that then a really bad injury. A fully fit O’Brien would have been a huge asset. Think we would be a lot closer to playoffs if he had stayed fit. I hope we can put together a deal for him. Maybe sacrificing McNairs salary will tip the balance

Unlike most the loanees we had last season, I don't think that we have increased his value significantly. I don't know how much he is worth, but seeing as he is an OK Championship midfielder and we are an OK Championship team, I would like to think that he will be affordable to us. I would be happy if we bought him, but would not be devastated if we didn't.

O'Brien is the loan signing I'd be most interested in keeping.

Greenwood hasn't done enough for me.
Thompson was just to add depth for now.
Ayling is obviously not the future. If he were signed to back up veteran contract like Smith or Peltier in recent seasons, fair enough, but we'll be looking to bring in a younger RB I'm sure

I hope we can rip any agreement up with Greenwood hes been mediocre and doesnt even look like he wants to be here
I thought he started off well, but we sailed that ship when we started to play him up front on his own (100% not his position), but suppose we didn't have any other option. I don't think Forss suits lone striker and does alright on the RH side, so I can understand him not being used up front, but it may have been worth a go.

Think O'Brien has done ok in last couple of games but I don't think he looks worth the probably substantial fee Forest will want for him.

I'd like to see how he performs over the remaining games. Jury's still out for me.

Had more bad games than good, and most worryingly, his good games have been when we have played 5 at the back and played more on the counter, something I don't think Carrick will want to play long term.
He has to improve his positional sense and his recovery runs massively when playing in a 4231.

Didn't Forest pay 8 mil for him and Toffolo? Say that was an equal split, think we could get him for 2-3, with wages in the 15-20k ball park. Would be an expensive deal by our current budgets.

I'd like to keep him. The only loan player I'd be remotely interested in us signing.

Although I'm sure his price tag and more so wages would make him the most difficult to sign. Also a lot may depend on forest. You'd think they would maybe be keen to keep if they are relegated. Although they will need a 'fire sale' for FFP.

I still don't think we've seen the best of him. He is recovering from a very serious injury. He is young enough to be a longterm solution to replacing Howson (who I think should get another year).

Also Hackney is quite likely to be sold for decent money. Also Mcnair will leave. So we are not stacked in CM. It's arguably one of the areas that needs the biggest overhaul. Johnny's age / Hackneys value and frankly for me Barlaser not really good enough. O'Brien going back to patent club.

I suppose maybe O'Brien is a possibility with any Hackney money. That or maybe another season loan if forest want (need) his wages off the books.

I wasn’t expecting him back this season so hopefully Hel get a run until the end if the season and we can get him permanent . Now we just need to build confidence and get some good wins and potentially see the side we expected if not for injuries. No reason why a good few players can’t hit double figures
