Because he admitted get a yellow to watch the masters so therefore he’ll condemned to a life as a chip on the shoulder
He already had a reputation for not caring, not trying, heart the size of a pea etc. The anecdote of his, whether it was true or not, just confirmed what people already thought of him.

O'Neil is one of my least favourite Boro players I have ever seen, I don't really feel he was an 'honest pro' and flattered to deceive even at Championship level.
However as a manager at both Bournemouth and now Wolves he has come across as very capable and a class act. I have to admit as a person maybe he's not who my impression of him as a player suggests.
Wilder however repeatedly shows us who he is now.

Gary O’Neil is doing a tremendous job at Wolves. Very impressive start to his managerial career.

That game always stuck in memory. There was. Boro board called Block17 at the time - and I said O'Neil was trying to get booked and suspended. It was really amazing how.long it took the ref to actually book him
