OAP Concession S/T going up £40 compared to full S/T going up £30

Is this ageism
surely if the full price is going up by £30 then a concession should increase by £15 or £20 at most.

When my partner’s grandad was a season ticket holder about ten years ago, his card was half the full adult price. I believe it has steadily crept up in price over the past three (?) years to about three quarters of the adult price now. Perhaps that is what the OP is alluding to, that the over 65s concessions are being charged proportionally more?

There is no justification for 65+ to pay less than other people these days. It's about time the prices were brought inline (although adult prices should be going down, not 65+ going up). They should keep the discount for 75+ and increase the age each year. 65 year olds are one of the wealthiest generations and the only age group wealthier are 55+ who are following them and will be getting their discount in the near future.

It's a form of low admin means testing but it's way out of step with reality now. Working age adults, particularly those on low incomes with kids are the ones that need the discount.

Before someone says there are poor pensioners that rely on the discount then of course there are but there are on average more people that are poor and can't afford tickets in the adult category. Adults are more likely to be paying for kids tickets as well.

A lot of that wealth is in property, not income. You would see a massive drop off in attendances from pensioners if they paid the full adult price.

Pensioners should absolutely be heavily discounted.

Most are probably on lower incomes than non pensioners, and countless have probably already poured thousands into the club after decades of support. Not a chance should they pay the same as everyone else.

No they aren't. They are the 2nd wealthiest demographic (55-65 are the wealthiest). They have mortgages paid off so their post housing cost income is on par with working adults. We are talking about averages, not specific cases. On average they can afford more than all age groups other than 55-65.

At no point did I claim that pensioners rates were bad, I just thought the original post claiming ageism was a bit over the top due to their increase being slightly more than somebody who was already paying much more than them.

I think ageism would be defined as doing something different purely because of the age of the perso eg charging different rates.

Whether people think this is fair or not is a different argument.

Wrong end of stick by me Sorry Juno.

There's a bad attitude towards older people by some, who do think made it all happen over the years, the fairies?. The people who paid full price over a lifetime for everything you care to name. Dear me.
Whilst I severely dislike generational rivalries, and I agree no one should have a 'bad attitude' to older people (and older people shouldn't have a bad attitude to younger people either but many do), they didn't 'make' anything happen voluntarily, they just weren't old at that time so they paid full price, like everyone else. It wasn't an act of philanthropy.

I am fully in agreement with discounted prices for OAPs as I think as people get older they need a bit more of an incentive to go through the hassle of getting to the ground etc on a cold winter night.

Norwich have a tiered system..
Some discount at 65, much more at 70 or 75.
Seems fairer tbh.
Thats like the Government moving the pension age up hoping that people die before they get to claim it. Keep the discounts at 65 so people(who are not part of the 2nd wealthiest demographic as noted above) get the chance to enjoy it while they are able. By time people get to 75 they are a lot less likely or able to go.
