OCD-type traits?

OCD is an "Anxiety Disorder" and can have serious impacts on a persons' functionality in daily life.
Although people try to make fun of the condition, that stems from their own ignorance.
Some people with OCD can face isolation and even suicide.
This may be useful for anyone experiencing OCD or who may be experiencing as yet undiagnosed symptoms:
Without doubt, Roofie. It's a crippling condition and I didn't intend to make light of it with this thread. I think much anxiety stems from a human desire for control which is denied us in a contingent world; the ultimate loss of control being a traumatic rupture of some sort, especially in childhood

Anything hung on a wall that isn't perfectly level annoys the hell out of me.
Ditto, light switches and sockets.

When my daughter moved into a new house, i had to readjust every one and make sure that they were perfect using a spirit level.

No problem chap. I didn't realise it was on my tick list till I found I couldn't leave the house and even got the tram back home one day because I was worried I hadn't locked the back door. Routine for everything. Usually the same every day (y)

My wife once bought me 7 pairs of socks for Xmas that had the days of the week on them. It was a nightmare because they had to be arranged in the drawer in the order that I would put them on.
And anyway, it's CDO - alphabetical.
I got some of them socks a while back. Binned them pretty quick as I couldn't not wear the right ones for the day or be arsed rifling through my sock draw for the right ones 👶

Roofie beat me to it. I don't wish to be 'that guy' and I know the thread was meant in a light-hearted manner but it really irks me when people trivialise OCD in such a way. It is no joke, trust me. I was diagnosed with it a couple of years ago, it's explained a great deal as to why I've suffered so badly with my mental health over the years, especially the anxiety side of things. It's also driven me to the brink of suicide numerous times because it can become so all-consuming and seemingly inescapable when it locks in. Please have a look at Roofie's link to establish just how serious a condition *chronic* OCD is. It can be a living hell and very often is for some people, especially ones who are unaware they have it, like I was for half of my life.

I'm not sure anyone has actually trivialised it have they? A lot of things mentioned in this thread are things that appear in the Y-BOCS scale anyways. How do we know where they appear on that scale?

I dont wear plain black socks but was bought 7 pairs for xmas. I say plain black but they had different stripy patterns on the sole and heel of each pair. What on earth is the point of socks with a pattern on the sole not the leg otherthan to drive you nuts trying to find a matching pair utterly pointless.

I just thought I was "organised". Being the oldest of four kids and taking charge from being about eight......had no choice at the time. Just one of those things.

I’ve got a really bloody annoying one which does my head in. After locking a door I have to do a little rat-a-tat on the door with my index finger and middle finger after checking it.

‘Duh, duh-duh-duh-duh-duh, duh-duh-duh-duh-duh’

If the knocking doesn’t match up to the usual system, I may have to redo it, although I am weening myself off that now and allowing myself slightly different variations.

*For those who can’t quite get the gist of the knocking, I’m happy to send a sound file
