He is the figurehead, or one of the major figures of a particularly nasty movement that has been allowed to infiltrate the mainstream. He should not have been given the platform, particularly on the BBC, to spread his racism and appalling views.

I appreciate it is a much deeper issue than just Farage, but he is one of the main protagonists of the current state of British politics IMO.

He was an elected MEP for years. I agree he's one of the leaders of this Right wing way of thinking that often borders on Far Right, but if it wasn't him it would be someone else. Other major nations have actually elected folk with similar views to him as their actual leader. Farage has never been anywhere near #10.

The electorate create these people, he was elected! More important, in my opinion, to try and understand the electorate.

As for Starmer, what has he actually said about this? I think he said the plans are “unworkable,” while Yvette Cooper plumped for “chaos.” I mean, that’ll show ‘em. Such tough, tough language. “We need serous action to stop small boar crossings,” she said.

It is chaos because there are no safe routes, because of deliberate underfunding, because of a lack of willingness to cooperate with France, because of a hostile foreign policy, because those in charge wish it to be chaos.

Starmer is not in charge. You're sort of judging him on something he's not done, or had a chance of improving yet, purely because you want him to sound more angry.

What I don't get is why its saying Nobby said something that Viv said.

My fears are finally confirmed, all the other posters on this board are just one person with hundreds of different usernames aren't they. Its just me and him/her/them experimenting with different arguments. :ROFLMAO:

I’m criticising Yvette Cooper for standing up as Shadow Home Secretary and choosing the word ‘chaos’ to describe what is happening. She is surely supposed to be the leader of the opposition to this. I will make a point of reading her full comments on this but I expect more condemnation in terms of the scale of dehumanisation involved. It’s appalling. So far we’ve had “chaos” and “unworkable,” which is just not enough IMO.

I expect more opposition, someone to stand up against this. They are posing with union jacks, courting that part of the electorate, the Daily Mail, the Sun, Murdoch, UKIP, Farage, they know what they are doing. They are openly flirting with it, positioning themselves. They know what they are doing.

And I can differentiate between the two main parties thank you very much. I don’t like what Starmer is doing with Labour, and he’s been quite open about saying he doesn’t need or want my vote. I won’t be voting for either of them.

I brought Labour into it because atypical said he thinks bringing this issue into the mainstream or fighting an election on it would blow up in the Tories’ faces. My reply is that I don’t really think it will, because to my mind the opposition are quite happy to go along with quite a lot of what the Tories are saying about these “small boats” instead of just calling it out in straight terms.

So the reason I referenced them, Labour, and him, Starmer, is because the two major parties will spend the coming weeks and months debating this issue while everything else is up in flames.

We will see about Starmer. You seem to like him. I think he’ll win the next election. Will he be any better than Sunak? Yes. I just don’t think he will do what needs to be done. This country is in ruins. But I can only go off what I see and hear from him and I just don’t see him delivering the structural change we need, dealing with wealth redistribution. Let’s see.

So, there you go. I brought him into it because it was relevant IMO. That’s what happens when a group of people are chatting and pushing a conversation along. Things crop up. We’ve had Farage as well. And Murdoch. Starmer is the Leader of the Opposition. You could bring anyone from the political sphere into it. That’s kind of how it works on a message board.
 
I watched the opening statements and replies. Braverman seemed to spend most of her time describing how it would fail…and naming all the usual suspects who will make that happen.
Of course it will fail, it was designed to,same as last year’s model, unworkable. Just another attempt at distracting from the absolute mess they’ve made of everything.
Nobody is buying it anymore, not even their backbenchers
When the King Rat, Graham Brady jumps ship. They’re really going to be bricking it.
