Old town hall

Over the border, is currently unsecured. Someone has removed the padlock and been inside vandalising again. Mate of mine has informed the council but heard nothing back yet. Sadly, he thinks it won't be long before some scrote sets it on fire and that'll be the end of any plans to preserve it as heritage.

Harry did this happen about a week ago? There was a flurry of activity following the report of the lock being broken. A mate of mine working in the area contacted the police and every council agency going about it. He even copied me in.

Don't know, morbid posted about it just yesterday and took photos, so if it was a week ago it's still not secured.

I hope its secured now.

It can't have been the Town Hall for long as the current one opened in 1889?

I am not sure what its going to be, but would it be great if someone could get funding for an Infant Hercules exhibition with videos/holograms against the bare walls, of Gladstone making his I/H speech - some displays to show the growth of the Town and Industry from 1830 to 1889 and then show the modern work on Computer gaming etc done in the Town.

Old one opened 1846 the new one 1889. The old town hall is a sad sight these days sat there all on its own. Quite few tents where homeless people live up near there these days too.

It was town hall for just less than half a century. But a half of amazing growth from a new frontier settlement to a cradle of the industrial revolution.
The plan is for it to be the catalyst for a technological revolution as a new digital hub. But it will also be the base for the St Hilda's model and we will press for it to also have further heritage and community functions. There is a big lottery bid being made at present for the building's future.
