Online language learning Apps

looking to learn a bit of Spanish, just wondered if anyone had used any of the online learning apps such as Babbel or Duolingo and had any recommendations btw I would be a total beginner

I use Duolingo to learn Franch. I did this for a bit and then supplemented it with some night school classes. It is quite good, but be prepared for a lot of repetition. This might be a good thing I suppose, but I learnt a lot more in an hour with a tutor than I do in a week with Duolingo. I think it is a good way to start to learn a language, but I would definitely recommend it not just being your main method of learning. I also don't pay anything for it.

I started to follow a few French twitter accounts for subjects I am interested in. I therefore have a bit of context and try and translate it them and lookup any words I don't know.

I know about 500 words in spanish, the problem is apart from the greetings and beer you won't have a clue when they speak fast.
The only way to learn is to be amongst the native speakers.

Duolingo is ok but bear I kind that its Mexican Spanish. I'm doing it and know enough to see the differences. Carro instead of coche for car for example.

planning a trip in the Spanish Pyrenees want to get enough of the language so I can ask for directions (my navigation skills are gash) , where to get water and food and places where I can wild camp etc so nothing too advanced, some areas I think they prefer to speak Catalan, Basque or other local languages but apparently most people will also speak Spanish
