He took a knock in the 1-2 defeat last night and was taken off in the 104th minute.
It will be decided today whether he travels for the Austria game . Ireland also play Romania on Wednesday.
Fingers crossed then.

The good news for Baraclough is that McNair has been declared fit for duty against Austria tonight, though with fatigue from Thursday's gruelling match a major factor, the manager has admitted he may err on the side of caution.

Fair enough, players want to play for their country no problem with that. And if it's a key game like their last one was then no problem with them playing carrying a niggle even.

But it it's a friendly or a dead rubber then ridiculous to risk players picking up an injury. Any doubt whatsoever and he should be left out. Doubt he will though.

He couldn't walk when he went off.

I would be stunned and annoyed if he got crocked playing this evening. I guess the only 'bonus' is that we only have to worry about him as our only international.

Just think of fans and managers of clubs who could have 15-20 away on international duty. I read Norwich have 11 so thats good for next weekend👍

This isn't a friendly, so I don't blame Northern Ireland whatsoever for playing him.

Hope he comes through okay.

Hopefully get a rest for the next game so fit for the Mighty Boro on Saturday.
Norwich have eleven away I think so not ideal preparation for them, hopefully works to our advantage.

For players in the Championship or PL, is playing for Wales or NI worth the downside risk?

Probably not worth the risk Anton, but these people who select the international sides try to pick a side to win and probably don't care a monkeys about our league games.
Remember the Boro player who flew to Australia and back every few months without kicking a football, and still managed to come back injured.

If you're Welsh or Northern Irish, yes?
I'm sure Paddy McNair feels far more affinity for Northern Ireland than he ever will for any club he plays for.

He'll still be paid if he gets injured on international duty and he's been one of our standout players this season, it's not like he's on the fringes of our squad.

I read Liverpool will receive money to cover Gomez wages as injured on international duty.

Is this a thing? Does it work for all players or just a big 6 rule?
