Paddy McNair

Warnock said McNair was the best player he's ever managed, some people have VERY short memories.....

"I can’t think of one better (than McNair), I really can’t,” said Boro boss Neil Warnock. “I keep thinking, but I can’t come up with anyone.

“I’ve had goalscorers – (Adel) Taarabt and (Victor) Moses and people like that, individuals who can do a bit of magic. But as a player, as a pro, as a person, I’ve never had a better specimen than this.

“The really exciting thing is that he’ll get better than this too. I’ll be surprised in the next two or three years if he’s not playing in Europe at the very top. He’s the best I’ve ever seen.”

Bloody hell, Warnock didn’t half talk some schite

His form suffered under Wilder playing in that stupid back 3. McNair was often the so called 'overlapping' centre back and was caught out a few times when he lost possession and couldn't get back, he was obviously playing under orders.

Look what happened to Fry with his loss of form under Wilder yet nobody seems to be slagging him off.

managers say all kinds of things to the press. I seriously doubt he's the best, although I'm sure was a very professional person to work with.

He's a decent player when on form, but he does get out muscled a little too easy and lacks pace. He got caught 1-vs-1 in the first 3 mins and really struggled to delay and control Bradshaw in that moment, he later got pulled out to LB spot beaten easily and tried to hack the forward down and missed ending up on the floor, he also had a moment of communication confusion with Fry where they both left Flemming to run and have a shot. I'm not trying to be overly critical but those are fairly typical McNair defensive moments. Saying that he is excellent at using his body to shield the ball and win free kicks, is hard working, drives forward when the opportunity arises and is a great passer. He's a steady championship player, but I worry that in the big moments against the good players he will be outmuscled or outpaced a bit too easily. If we want to get promoted we should compare him to our last CBs when promoted Gibson and Ayala....he's miles behind those two were in quality

So much better than Fry on the ball, just not as good defensively although he's yet to let us down today.

I think Fry comes back in - but great to have options.

3 good centre backs for 2 places (4 if Clarke gets fit)

3 good central midfielders for 2 places with Barlaser coming in.

Different options up front now.

Really pleased with how the squad looks.

Going to be a tough decision now next week for Carrick. Does he keep his place?
I'd hope so. 2 clean sheets now with McNair in.

For me you keep your place till you make a mistake or lose form. The sending off was a bit harsh, but Fry was poor v Sunderland and it was still an error that led to the sending off. McNair has come in and staked his claim. For me he should be in until he does something to warrant losing his place. Fry will get his chance I'm sure.

Obviously I defer to Carrick's judgement but that's what I'd like to see to be honest. I don't think Fry could complain.
