Paying to go Private - Advice

5 months ago my stomach felt very inflamed (maybe Gastritis), which lead onto lots of Gas and Bloating. Constant burping.
At it's worse I got Heart palpations due to all the trapped gas (which my GP told me is fairly common).

I've been put on a PPI and taking antacids but it's still not healing.

NHS ultrasound and blood tests are clear.

I see a NHS gastroenterologist in September but I could do with getting to the bottom of it sooner than that. GP seems to be getting sick of my complaining.
Ultrasound person I spoke to said maybe a CT scan might show up something...inflammation or a hiatus hernia etc..

Thinking of going private but have limited funds and don't want to pay for the wrong test.

Been quoted £225 for a consultation by the Nuffield, but not sure if that will be money down the drain.

Opinions?

Have you got any sort of health insurance through work? Some employers have very basic cover (you pay then claim back) that often goes un-utilized as not many people outside of HR Know about it.

I had a health scare earlier this year which required a lot of tests from both NHS and Nuffield. The difference between the two is staggering, the people at the NHS are wonderful but getting anything done is a nightmare and then a long wait for results. With Nuffield they would say expect results within a week and call back the following day.

One is free and the other costs a bit, you get what you pay for.

I think you'd need a referral, even if you're paying privately?

In other words they'll only provide a service if there is merit in doing so.

Cheapest CT scan I found was Hartlepool general, cheaper and quicker than Nuffield.

I paid £200 at Leeds Nuffield for a consolation. Was quoted £000's for the procedure and when I said I would go ahead the price jumped up £500, I was also advised I would have to pay for any meals I ate at the hospital and to top it all off the cost of the consultation wasn't deducted from the total price neither. All this for an out-patient appointment.
Blimey!

Do you know what exactly they scanned? I once woke up and my wife thought I was having a heart attack, but it was the first episode of many in my gall bladder having enough of my Olympic athlete diet.

I would get terrible wind after each attack too, which prompted me to write this...
