Phones at gig's/concerts/festivals

I like to do a 30 seconds recording to remind myself of the gig later down the line. Agree with the sentiment though people that record for long periods are missing out and potentially ruining the vibe for others.

I don't mind recording a part of the odd song, but I can't stand it when people stand and record every single song, for the whole time.

Always makes me laugh when you can see someone recording, but in their camera all you can see are others in front of them also recording.
And their footage is **** and the phone is wobbly as ****. Was it really worth paying £40 quid to go to a gig to only film the whole thing and the camera footage to be awful? Next time, save some money, watch videos on YouTube.

This really winds me up. People watch the gig/show through a 6 in screen instead of watching the fking stage. I bet 99% never even look at the video footage they have taken. Grrrrrrr and already said people walking theirs dogs or pushing prams just staring at the screen. What is so important??????

Does my napper well and truly in. Was at a Bryan Ferry gig a few years back. Genius in the seat in front had clearly got a new phone on his birthday and was gripped to it throughout. Looked over his shoulder to see what was more edifying than Bryan Ferry live, to discover he was surfing Bryan's website. Phones make dunces of us all.

£40 ???

What gigs are you going to ???

Last tickets I bought for a gig was nearer £100 🙄

Was at a Troy Hawke gig at Newcastle City Hall on Saturday.
We were all asked pre-show not to record
A couple of people were thrown out second half from the front row for persistently ignoring requests to stop

It's like that with some live shows in Amsterdam too.

I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea but I watched the Oasis knebworth documentary and Noel spoke about how it was probably the last big gig before camera phones and you can just see the enjoyment and awe in people’s faces as they are just watching the group!!!!

Although as most gigs from my youth seem to have passed me by in a drunken haze part of me wishes I’d have had the ability to record it.

Unfortunately it’s the way of the world now, but I seem to think somebody did ask everyone to leave their phones rather than allowing them in gig but I can’t think who it was.

Ps I do watch some footage on YT that people have taken with their phone so I’m part of the problem I suppose!!!
Yeah, I understand the point that Noel was making about Knebworth in that that Britpop movement was one of the last big moments before the internet/smart phones/social media took over the world, but there is absolutely no way 1996 was the last time people didn't have camera phones at gigs. :ROFLMAO:

Although I dislike it, I'd happily have every single attendee filming the entire gig on their smart phone as long as they all promised never to sing/hum along out loud to a bassline or guitar solo.

Watch any live footage of Courteeners' 'Not Nineteen Forever' for an example of just how bad this can be.

Have seen a few concerts advertised as phone free where you have to lock your phone away before entering and get it back on the way out.

Yes, saw Dylan last year.
Phone gets put in a plastic case and the case is locked and you keep it with you.
There is an ‘emergency’ where they will unlock area if you think of something desperate.
At the end of the gig there are a host of people near the exit ready to unlock your case.

Been at other gigs where the audience have behaved when asked not to use their phone and others where they are selfish.

Maybe it’s my phone but the audio playback if I did this would be horrible. Don’t know who including myself would want to listen to it as it would sound awful.

Leeds Festival 2013 was the last real time I remember not being surrounded by phones, then they went and made those phone charging stalls a regular thing.

I managed to make my iPhone 4 last from the Wednesday until Saturday night with barely any usage.

I wouldn't use an iphone 4. There have been no security updates for ages.

Anyone who went to the Jonathan Pie tour will know what he thinks of mobiles and filming gigs and shows. He ejects anybody filming so nobody does it. He also then goes on to utter a fabulous rant about the practice.
