Post office / Horizon inquiry

It’s easy for us to be angry about this now, and rightly so, but just to put another point of view I wonder how many of us would speak up when the culture was so much about protecting the post office and they were your paymasters?

Listening to Vennells on the stand and shocked at how poor she is (maybe I shouldn't be). I mean really poor. How did she obtain that position? Now she is in tears.

I have worked for an IT company for 27 years, with an open door policy. What utter b***ks. If you see something is wrong, you get squashed. I've many times stood up to the higher ups and been shot down every time. Surprised I even still have a job. Corporate b***ks.

Corporate bullying of the worst kind. Unsuitable and incompetent management protecting themselves but with higher stakes. Strings pulled by people even higher up than Vennells who were making millions from the Fujitsu contract. I am not sure we will ever get to the darker side of this. Vennells is rightly taking most of the flak but others hidden in the shadows will get away with it.

Who are these others?
Also how do individuals make millions from a corporate contract?

There are people above Vennells who had interests in the government contract - that is well known. I have absolutely no proof of course of who they are.

However I reserve my right to be highly suspicious of Government self interest with their suppliers. Covid taught us that.

There is a well understood revolving door between industry and the senior levels of government. This is particularly acute in IT. Cabinet Office Business Appointment Rules are meant to manage such conflicts, unfortunately they are crap.

Of course. Organisations set up whistle blower systems so that anyone with an issue involving malpractice will go to HR under the impression the issue will be investigated whereas their story will immediately be buried and the whistle blower threatened and made to sign an NDA.

I find it absolutely incredible that she should not know about the Post Office Investigation Dept/Division. I worked with the PO back in the day (80s) and was interviewed once by them over a discrepancy of a few quid on my balance (warned about being laissez faire). Anyone who worked for the PO was aware of them. Of course these criminals were just parachuted in from their previous well-paid failure, but come on it's not like the existence of the Investigation Div/Dept was some kind of secret.

Cry, Paula, cry, we don't believe a fuggin word.
