QPR Pigbag

The worst run out tune is local hero. It sounds like some godawful 80s soap opera theme.
I always find it bizarre that Everton and Watford come out to Z Cars. A TV theme tune!!! Why?!?

Didn't we used to run out to Simply The Best for a bit? I started going in 1989 and I'm sure they used to run out to it early 90s. Am I making that up?

It was Power Game followed by Simply the Best. Great combo.

I still sing simply the best in my head whenever the Power Game concludes. My mind is just trained now.

I’m pretty sure Sunderland did in the eighties as well.

And the Power Game is a tv theme tune. At least Z cars was set in Liverpool, which gives Everton some justification. The Power Game was set in London.

I have sometimes wondered if pig bag had a particular connection to a certain generation of England players since we adopted it when we respectively had Brian Robson and Butch Wilkins as player managers. Maybe we both pinched it from England?

I had no idea The Power Game was a TV show.

What was it with teams running out to TV shows? And how come one of the Manchester teams didn't run out to Corrie? 😂

My memory is pants, but I seem to recall late 80's/1990 Cambridge away, they ran out to 'Yes, We Have No Bananas'.
I was admittedly, a bit tipsy so who knows...

Defo played pigbag v Chelsea 95.

I don’t think fans started clapping and singing along until Oxford promotion game as it was played after the first goal went in. Everyone went mental
Here's proof that you're wrong

It *might* have been played as part of the buildup, as the song was officially released in January 1995 and went straight into the Top 10, back when that was actually an achievement.

Also we played Reach Up as our runout music against Oxford United so probably introduced it before then

Thanks very much for bringing me evidence that I am right.

The video is a series of clips. So doesn’t cover the whole walk out and team announcements.

However, if you skip to around 3 mins 30 seconds, you can hear Pigbag by Perfecto Allstars ending just before Mark Page starts reading out the teams.

Cheers Detective 🕵️

If the TV series has to have a Teesside connection, maybe a better choice would be the theme from The Troubleshooters. There was at least one reference to Teesside, it being about an oil company. Also filmed at least one episode in the area.

The Mogul Theme

So nearly correct in every detail.

But wrong on all counts!!

🤣

They play “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts”

And only after the game, if they’ve won.

Rather than being a little tipsy, I suspect you were bladdered! 😉
