Radio Tees “ commentary “

Watching match on Betis TV
Spanish commentary
Put Maddison and Co on they are talking about Hobnob biscuits
Neveer mentioned anything about match yet
Give up and put Spanish commentary back on
Feel for whoever has to listen to Tees garbage every week

The commentators are doing their own pre-season too, which means getting some match talk in now and again, in amongst the biscuits , they will look to peak at the right time , just like our players

As I noted on Roofie’s “Unofficial “Official“ thread, the audio from the BBC Radio Tees stream was in almost perfect sync with the Betis video stream which worked well for me👍

It's pretty cringeworthy, watching games on a firestick, you often get the radio Tees commentary.
It's like they're watching a diffrent game at times, I understand the desire to be positive, but they must not be allowed to voice any criticism at all.
Poor play is always described as 'I can see what he was trying to do there' or 'He had the right idea'
Often get players names wrong, line ups wrong, concentrating more on biscuits and sugar puffs.

When it was Brownlee and Slaven there was a large cohort of fans who hated it back then. They were all very quiet when Ali died, or they’d changed their minds at least.

TBH the BBC Tees commentary is meant to have a hugely local/biased slant and I take it with a pinch of salt. Can’t say it has ever “irritated” me as such. They do a better job than I would I’ve no doubt.

Not how I remember it at all. I thought everyone loved Ali and Bernie. There were some absolutely iconic moments of commentary with those two. It was the perfect combination. You had Ali who had his Boro rose tinted specs on at all times and would get carried away god bless him. Then you had Bernie who actually saw the game how it was and would try to keep Ali's feet on the ground. The banter between them was brilliant. We'll never get a commentary duo as good as those two on local radio again that's for sure.

If catflaporama still existed I could show you loads of threads from the 00s where Ali was heavily criticised. The love for him was unanimous by the time he got ill but it hadn’t always been the case.

I like listening to Maddo’s insights. He can be a bit repetitive but that’s the nature of his role TBH. I’m not so keen on the commentator though. It’s like he’s trying too hard to be a character.

“And while Perry Ng collects the ball off the Cardiff goalkeeper and looks to start play near the right-hand side, I’d like to wish Georgina Perry of Marton a very happy 12th birthday, with lots of love from Mam, Dad, Geoff and Nana Parsons. That’s Parsons, Neil. Not the things that taste like perfume that you have on your Christmas dinner.” “Ha, I love a parsnip me Mark.” “I know you do, I’ve seen you down the Carvery. If you’re just joining us it’s Boro 0-2 Cardiff City, with two early goals for the Bluebirds…giving Boro a mountain to climb. And Boro now have the ball in the arms of goalkeeper Zach Steffen.”

Maybe it's a case of you don't know what you've got until it's gone. When you listen to Ali's commentary now on some of those memorable games, European nights etc. The bloke had a gift. Mark Drury does his best but he'll never be in the same league as Ali, nor will anybody else. His passion for the Boro shone through.

You may be right but by the same token I don’t think, if Ali was as good as we all thought (including me), that it’s fair to compare Drury to Brownlee. It’s a hard act to follow, but people naturally can’t help but compare them (as I have done too).

Anyway, I don’t mind Drury at all, or Maddo, totally objective commentary doesn’t really exist. Whenever we’re on Sky there’s a large amount of criticism for whoever is on for being biased against us.

Nailed it 😂. I often think what must other club's supporters think when they hear Maddo and Drury on the commentary 🤔 🤣 .

Fair point. I like Maddo but I can't get away with Drury. Comes across as a bit arrogant for me but each to their own.

Why is it meant to be hugely biased when other local radio stations arent half as blatently partisan. Drurys witticisms are dreadful and he also seems to take pleasure in showing he superior intellect and humiliating maddo at times. Crap banter from him at the expense of others. The guys a complete jerk.
