I know....very random indeed but this is aimed at the older lads on here, 40, 50, 60+.
It just cropped up in conversation about dad's always wearing trousers/slacks, call them what you want but I can never ever remember my old man in a pair of jeans. Come to think of it I can never remember him in a pair of shorts.
I'm pushing 59 now and only ever wear trousers to some sort of function.
Was it a generational thing? A fashion thing? Surely jeans were around in the 60s and 70s 🤔
So, over to you lovely lot.
Did your dad wear jeans ( and shorts 😂 )

My old feller is 70 in a few months he’s always worn jeans and shorts for as long as I can remember. Never seen him wear slacks or proper trousers ever. Both my grandads on the other hand though, don’t remember ever seeing either in a pair of jeans.

I think it is certainly an age thing, my dad is 88 and always wore a suit when he went out. Even on holiday, he would wear smart trousers with a shirt.

My dad wears jeans.

I don't. And I don't understand why so many people wear them. They really look quite poor and scruffy. They were designed to stop cowboys getting their balls poked by barbed wire. Baffled why they are so ubiquitous. There's hardly any cowboys these days.

No, never jeans or shorts (there would have been hilarity if he'd worn shorts with those legs). Always trousers, some even had turn ups.

I'm 66 and do remember my Dad wearing jeans. More when we were on holiday than around the home. I have absolutely no memories of him wearing shorts even on holiday.

No never !
I on the other hand stopped wearing blue jeans when i was about 50 changed to black ones because i felt more comfortable with them.

No.
Up until the 70s, a working man would have a best suit for going out at the weekend, and the previous suit for work. Not unusual to see a gang digging up the roads wearing John Collier/Burtons whistles.

In the 70s, my dad worked for a Newcastle based electrical contractor at ICI. He said that the young geordie lads aspired to buy 'Lev-ee' jeans, as they would say.. First time I'd heard of Levis.

Blokes born in the 1930s - did not wear jeans as a leisure item in the UK.

Jeans as leisure wear I associate with the hippie era say from 1967. Jeans were also popular with Bikers all through the 1960s see Quadrophenia.

My guess if you are born after about 1943 - Jeans were OK, but if born 1943 or earlier Jeans were definitely work wear.

No. No jeans or shorts. Just slacks. He's asian. Probably a cultural and generational thing. Never really thought about it until reading this thread.
